• Descriptive paragraphs are often used to describe:*What a person looks like and acts like.*what a place looks like.*What an object looks like.

• Good descriptive paragraphs provide the reader with an accurate mental picture of the subject of the paragraph whether it is a person, a place or an object.

Describing a Person I am forty years old, rather tall and I have blue eyes and short black hair. I wear casual clothes as I teachstudents in a relaxed atmosphere. I enjoy my job because I get to meet and help so many different people from all over the world. During my spare time, I like playing tennis which I play at least three times a week. I also love listening to classical music and I must admit that I spend a lot of money on buying new CDs! I live in a pretty seaside town on the Italian coast. I enjoy eating great Italian food and laughing with the likable people who live here.

Describing a Place

• I have got my own room. In my room there is a bed, a table, a chair, a wardrobe and a television.  There is a window above the table. The television is opposite my bed so I can watch it when I am in bed. The wardrobe is on the left and my bed is on the right. There is a computer on the table and books, pens and cds are near the computer. There is a magazine and a camera on the bed. I Like my room because it is cozy.
