For many years now, London has been an adept of the « greenattitude » ! Acting as a “green lung”, greater London is composed bytwo thirds of park and gardens. And beyond the many parks andtheir immaculate lawn, the British capital has adopted manyinitatives to encourage the awareness of sustainable development.Ahead of their time the British have developped some public orprivate initiatives which ranks London as one of the most ecofriendly cities. From a state perspective, one can point out the cityhall by Norman Foster with its low energy consumption inauguratedin 2002, the initiative of setting up 6000 bicycles in “free” accessbefore the end of the year or Eurostar which produces 10 times lessCO2 than an equivalent plane trip…Some private initiatives havejumped on the same bandwagon : a beauty and well being shopselling 100% of organic goods, some restaurants using vegetablesfrom the local market (no further that the perimeter of the nextmetro station), a delicatessen selling unpackaged goods, a clothesshop advocating sustainable development and the use of organic rawmaterial, some former containers turned into offices and flats…Soit’s time for a trip to Green London!
