  • RECNCAVO BASINLocation

  • RECNCAVO BASIN

    Area: 10,200 km2

Origin: Related to the extensional forces that acted on

Gondwanaland during the Mesozoic. Represented in thesouthern part of the western branch of a Rift Valley systemlocated along the current Brazilian coastal region, thatpreceded the separation of the South American and Africanplates.

Limits: Separated from Tucano Basin to the N and NW by the Apor

High and to the S, from the Camamu Basin by the BarraFault. Bounded to the E by the Salvador Fault.

  • RECNCAVO BASIN

    Semi-Mature Stage ofExploration!

    (Andrade, 1989)

  • BACIA DO RECNCAVO

    Andrades opinions in 1988

    - The Recncavo Basin is in a semi-mature stage of

    exploration

    - There are several possibilities for oil & gas in

    specific areas of the basin

    - New discoveries depends on increased quality of seismic in less drilled areas - Search for mixed, stratigraphic and nonconventional traps shall be considered

    - Enhance the use of new tecnologies and new

    exploratory concepts

  • BACIA DO RECNCAVO

    Wells drilled (1988-2001): 873

Wells completed (oil and gas - 2000): 108

Total oil production (1988-2000):37.621 MM m3

    Proved reserves (2000):33.350 MM m3

    Reserves incorporated between 1988-2000:

    15.407 MM m3

    EXPLORATION HISTORY

  • BACIA DO RECNCAVO

    - Gulf Coast Region hasnt reached yet its full potential

    - There are several untested possibilities for oil & gas

    - Total of wells drilled, only in TX & LA, surpasses

    820,000 (1/km2)

    - New discoveries depend principally on increased

seismic activities, exploratory drilling and new

    geologic concepts

    Halboutys opinions in 1988
