APPROACH TO MODERN PLASTICS SORTING

In order to produce new plastic food-

grade packaging from recycled poly-

mers such as PET bottles it is necessary

to achieve very high and consistent

quality standards. Until very recently

recycling facilities opted instead for

making a lower grade recycled polymer

to be used in other products such as

then lost as a raw material for the

food-grade packaging production loop.

Using innovative systems TITECH

enables you to produce a high quality

food-grade recycled polymer and thus

close the loop in the recycling process.

For example bottle-to-bottle

Less than 100 ppm impurities – this

means almost perfect purity. This re-

into new transparent bottles. Even

the smallest impurity prevents their

use in bottle-to-bottle procedures.

In order to sort out any residue of or-

ganic matter, metals, PVC or coloured

particles of just 2–12 millimetres must

-

est reliability for colour and material.

Standard technology did not achieve

all in once.

Technology

we transformed the proven TITECH

autosort into an innovative specialist

– tried and tested technology meets

highly developed double-sensor

systems. (VIS) provided colour infor-

mation, (NIR) information from the

near infrared range.

Only these two dimensions combined

allow for simultaneous and reliable

detection of colour and material type.

The short distance between measure-

ment process and discharge as well as

a particularly tight valve grid ensure

positive material separation.

CLOSE THE LOOP

Input: pre-sorted plastics

Step 1 Pre-treatment

plastics contains both bottles and

foil. In an upstream process, a

„ballistic separator“ separates these

two- and three-dimensional objects.

Optionally you can integrate a

TITECH autosort which provides

continuous quality of the manually

or automatically pre-sorted material.

Step 2 3 Step Sorting

The pre-sorted plastics pass a multi-

step sorting process in which NIR and

VIS sensors detect colour and materi-

al. Depending on the degree of soiling

and on plastic type, foreign materials,

non-ferrous metals and wrong colours

are ejected. This results in a mono

(< 300 ppm eg. PVC, colored PET, PE,

PP, ferrous and non-ferrous metals…).

cleaned and dried.

Step 3 Flake Sorting

These recovered single-coloured

grain size fractions of 2–4 and > 4 to

then detects material and colour of

thus again ejecting impurities and

wrong colours. The result is a PET

and very low material loss (< 100

ppm) – the standard for bottle-to-

bottle is thus achieved. But the

ejected fraction is no waste either –

in the double-step process it passes

be recovered.

Step 4 Flake Quality Control

Better safe than sorry: At the end

of the process, an NIR sensor

detects and impurities and thus

checks permanently for constant

quality. Without that, long-term

application in industrial production

would not be feasible.

Easy to maintain lamp unit Freely accessible nozzle bar TITECH autosort in operation

Maintenance

Especially with the high throughput

downtime due to machine mainte-

nance causes high losses. Therefore,

vital machine parts such as lamp and

nozzle bar are designed to be serviced

in running operation.

The level of the scanner’s performance

and the purity level of the sorted

material depend on the intensity of

the light. When dust and dirt from

the conveyor belt is deposited on

the lamps, the strength of the light

is affected considerably.

The TITECH lamp units are particularly

easy to clean and maintain. A glass

front protects the individual lamps, the

and the lamp units are mounted with

wing nuts. This way they can be

replaced and aligned quickly and

without any problem.

Maintenance in running operation

is also possible for the nozzle bars

which can be soiled by moisture

from the cleaning process. They are

easily accessible so that cleaning

does not require to stop the entire

sorting process.

ADVANTAGES

High product yield with high

throughput

100 % plastic-to-plastic possible

short payback period of the

TITECH machines

Modular design and simple

integration

Well-proven design

Very easy to maintain –

no downtimes
