1. INTRODUCTIONMarine Instrument Display (WiFi) allows you to use iPhone/iPad/Watch as an advanced

marine instrument display and navigation aid for sailing. The application allows you to create/follow/transfer routes, control autopilot, track your path and receive/store/forward

NMEA0183 data over WiFi and see AIS targets on the map. Send and receive data through iCloud over the Internet.

It features an unique wind view, race starter, various alarms, calculates angle of heel and

predicted boat speed based on the VPP (Velocity Prediction Program) tables that can be easily copy&pasted to the application.

MID and MID WiFi can be used either a stand-alone navigation aid or an advanced external display as part of traditional navigation system including a chartplotter and wind/log/depth sounder instruments.

Apple Watch can be used as an autopilot remote controller for Raymarine autopilots. All data and alarms are also available on Watch.

A typical NMEA/Seatalk setup with iPad, iPhone and Watch running MID WiFi is illustrated

below.

Chartplotter | |NMEA / Seatalk | | NMEA0183 | |

2. FEATURES

– Swipe to switch between data pages– Tap the SET to enter the Settings page– Tap the value of any field to cycle through thecolor modes

– Tap the title of any field (such as TIME) to selectthe data to the field

– Tap a unit to cycle through the unit modes– Tap the unit (°) of the heeling (HLG) to calibrate(zero angle)

– Press the value of any field at least two secondsto reset the TIME, ASOG, MSOG and TRIP

– Tap the LOCK to lock/unlock the screen(orientation and other functionality exceptscrolling and TIME/ASOG/MSOG/TRIP reset)

– Location services are switched on by default. Theycan be switched on/off by tapping thecoordinates.

– The trip time runs while moving (SOG > 0)– The COG is shown while moving (SOG > 0)

COMPASS CALIBRATION

1. The back cover must be faced forward accuratelyin order to get the correct compass heading.

2. Mount the iPhone/iPad securely and make sure itcannot move accidentally to ANY direction.

3. Tap the unit field (°) of the heeling (HLG). HLG is set to zero and the heading shows the correct value.

COUNTDOWN TIMER

– Configure the start time (1 - 30 minutes) by touching the SET to enter the Settings view

– Start/sync the timer by touching the "sync"– Stop the timer by touching the "sync" at least two seconds– The timer beeps every minute and when 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 second(s) are remaining

STARTING LINE– Mark the position of the Committee Boat by touching the (+) button– Move to the position of the Pin and mark the position by touching the (+) button– Distance to above positions are shown next to the (+) buttons

Different types of views are used to show the information received from the onboard

devices or internal sensors. There are three types of views and several alarms:

SMALL AND LARGE TEXT VIEWS

– Shows values in simple text format

WIND VIEW

– Shows Apparent and True Wind Angles simultaneously– The size of the blue sector indicates the variation in wind direction– Compass scale shows the current heading (or COG if HDG is not available) and true wind direction

– The red dot on the compass scale shows the bearing to waypoint (BTW) if following

a route

5

Page 6: User's Guide - veerasolutions.com · 1. INTRODUCTION Marine Instrument Display (WiFi) allows you to use iPhone/iPad/Watch as an advanced marine instrument display and navigation aid

MAP VIEW

– AIS targets (SOG, TCPA, CPA)– Add to / Remove from Favorites – Show all AIS targets or Favorites Only

– Routes– Create and follow– Transfer to a chartplotter on NMEA– A long touch initiates Goto to Waypoint

– Tracks– Create and replay (all NMEA data including AIS targets)– Rename a route or a track by touching the name– Share the tracks by email (GPX, NMEA)– Stored NMEA data can be accessed via iTunes File Sharing.

– Autopilot controls (Raymarine autopilots, requires ShipModul MiniPlex-3Wi or 3E)– Switch between OpenSeaMap and satellite image with a long touch of (+)

AUTOPILOT VIEW (iPhone only, if Autopilot Control enabled)

– Standby / Auto / Wind / Response (a long touch always sets mode to Standby)– -1 / - 10 / +1 / +10– -1 plus +1 / -1 plus -10 / +1 plus +10– Track

iPad Air 2 running MID WiFi and Apple Maps at the same time (split view and slide-over feature).

ALARMS

– Depth (Deep, Shallow)– Anchor (Deep, Shallow, Distance)– Wind (AWA/TWA/AWS/TWS High/Low, TWD Shift)

APPLE WATCH

Shows information in compact format and features basic autopilot controls for Raymarine autopilots connected via SeaTalk. Heading and Speed-over-Ground are shown on the status bar if autopilot mode is Auto. True Wind Angle and Speed-over-Ground are shown if autopilot mode is Wind.

Touch and hold -1 or +1 one second for Response setting. Touch and hold -10 one second for AutoTack to port and +10 to starboard.Touch and hold Auto/Standby one for Standby → Wind or Wind → Standby.

Alarms are forwarded to Watch.

3.1. NMEA DATA SETTINGS

NMEA DATA FORWARDING

MID WiFi allows multicasting the received NMEA data to other devices over UDP as follows:

NMEA-WiFi bridge (10.0.0.1) --> iPad (192.168.1.2) --> Device 1 (192.168.1.3) .UDP/multicast: ON . Server IP: 255.255.255.255Port: 20000 . Server Port: UDP 20000 .Server IP: 10.0.0.1 --> Device N (192.168.1.4)Server Port: TCP 10110

Server IP: 255.255.255.255 Server Port: UDP 20000

AUTOPILOT CONTROL

Enables/disables controls for Raymarine autopilotsconnected over SeaTalk. Controls are visible in Map view,Autopilot view (iPhone only) and Apple Watch:

– Auto/Standby/Wind/Response– -1° / -10° / +1° / +10°

Note: ShipModul MiniPlex-3Wi/3E is required for NMEA-Seatalkconversion.

RMB sentences are sent when following a route or ”GotoWaypoint” is active.

CALIBRATION

Some devices send uncalibrated Boat Speed and/or WindSpeed over NMEA resulting in false reading. Thesesettings can be used to correct the values.

NoLAND DATA SCALING

NoLAND data scaling parameters for EAVx and RPM.

3.2. ALARMS

Depth, anchor and wind alarm minimum and maximumthresholds are configured here.

Alarms can be used remotely by sending the datathrough iCloud to e.g. an iPhone and enabling alarms onit. This is useful for e.g. anchor alarm or wind shift.

3.3. VPP TABLE

Velocity Prediction Program tables can be copy&pasted to the app from e.g. an email message.

– The boat and wind speed must be in knots– Only spaces and tabs are allowed between the values– No alphabets accepted
