Clean India, Green India- Play your part You all must know, that things thrown into the trash could be recycled, reused or composed. If

the waste is not managed efficiently, it ends up in a land fill where garbage takes a long time

to decompose. You can help by creating awareness on “Sorting of Waste” before it is disposed

off. Let’s do these simple activities and increase our knowledge :

➢ Take cutouts (A3 size) in the shape of bins in colours Green, red , and Pink.

➢ On the pink cutout, Stick pictures of things that can be reused . On the Brown cutout,

stick pictures of things that can not be reused (Non- biodegradable) and on the green

cut-out, stick pictures of things that can be composted .

Now prepare a composed pit using the things which can be composted

• Compost is a organic matter that has been decomposed in a process called composting. This process recycles requires various organic materials or green wastes like peel of fruits and vegetables, wet leaves , grass etc. , waiting for the materials to break down into humus after a period of months and produces a soil conditioner (the compost). Compost is rich in nutrients. It is used for example in gardens, landscaping, horticulture, urban agriculture and organic farming. It increases the fertility of the soil .

Follow the steps to prepare a compost pit: ➢ Take a garden pot / an earthen pot ➢ Add green wastes and water into the pot. ➢ Covet it with a lid ➢ Leave it for one and half months for

decomposing . ➢ Use it in your garden and bring sample to

school after vacation .
