Australian journalists venture out on Tanna and Efate

Vanuatu Tourism and the Australian representative office led a group of Australian journalists on a soft adventure themed famil in Efate and Tanna. The group of journalists included Rebecca Baker, Australian Geographic Outdoor magazine; Greg Tarry, Yahoo7 Total Travel; Cayla Dengate, mX newspapers and Chris Calcino, APN newspapers in Queensland. In Tanna the group visited Mount Yasur, dived the Blue Cave and visited the Black Magic Village and on Efate they braved the cascades abseiling, went off road with Buggy Adventures and snorkelled at Hideaway Island. Thanks to all partners who supported the group including Poppy’s on the Lagoon, Warwick Le Lagon, Friendly Bungalows and Tanna Evergreen Resort.

Numake re-elected to lead Tafea Tourism in 2013

By Daniel Ringiau- Acting Manager & Tafea Tourism Business Development Officer: During this year of Tafea Tourism Council- Annual General Meeting, held on 28th November, 2012 in White Crass Resort, Mrs Merian Numake was re-appointed by the TTC members as president for upcoming year 2013. The TTC executive’s board is made up of the president, Mrs Merian Numake, vice president, Mr. Kelson Hosea, Treasurer, Mr. Tom-Naieu, Secretary, Mr. Daniel Ringiau and other 3 executive’s members, Mr. Werry Narua, Mrs Hellen Iarapia, and Mr. Isso Kapum. The board members will lead the platform for year, 2013. In her second term as re-elected chairlady, Mrs. Merian Numake and her new executives aim to further strengthen the TTC organizations by seeking foreign and local aid donors… continue top right column.

ATR returns from service Media release 30 November 2012: Air Vanuatu’s ATR72-500 is on its way back from a month long service with Malaysian Airlines, with a clean bill of health. CEO Joseph Laloyer said the aircraft is returning on schedule and will be back in service on Tuesday. During the maintenance period, Air Vanuatu leased a replacement ATR72 from Air Tahiti which will operate its last flight on Monday. “We are very grateful to Air Tahiti for their professional service over the last month which has ensured minimal disruption to our passengers,” Mr. Laloyer said. The airline has been operating supplementary Boeing 737 flights to Fiji in the absence of the ATR, however direct flights to Suva will resume next weekend. “As we approach our busiest time of year on the domestic network, we ask our passengers to please assist us by ensuring they book early, check in early and take advantage of our supplementary flight to Santo, scheduled for 23 December,” Mr. Laloyer said.

The new TTC executives also have vision to upgrade and turn Tafea Cooperative House to TTC Resource Center and expecting to explore among other avenues to generate revenues besides TTC members’ fees. In addition, the TTC executive’s members aim to work closely with Unelco to further power extension to Rocky Ridge Bungalow. Furthermore, they aim to target direct flights from New Caledonia and Fiji to disembark in White Crass Airport. Finally, Merian and her new executives have goal to implement security method to evacuate tourists during an emergency. The re-election of Mrs. Merian Numake is an outcome of the TTC constant management process. Merian Numake is outstandingly qualified for this role proposed by TTC members.

The Upcoming 2012 Kava Emporium Melanesian Cup of Surfing is to be held at Pango Village – the home of Vanuatu Surfing between the 10th -17th of December. Teams from Vanuatu, Fiji and New Caledonia will be participating in The Kava Emporium Melanesian Cup of Surfing , this the third time the competition has been run. To date Vanuatu one the inaugural competition in 2010 and are hoping that home ground advantage and skill full local board riders such as Roger Kalotiti are able to win the Cup back from New Caledonia who won it in 2011. Simon Pettiford the contest director for the 2012 Kava Emporium Melanesian Cup of Surfing is hoping for good waves and a good competitive and communal atmosphere throughout the competition. “ The previous competitions have led to this being an anuual event and we have put a lot of effort in to make sure that competitors from throughout Melanesia are able to compete at the best possible level” said Mr Pettiford. 96 Buzz FM will be announcing what days the competition will be running throughout the competition waiting period so keep your ears tuned in and come down and watch the best surfers in Melanesia go head to head at Pango.
