RONIN 48 ROW VARIABLE RATE INSTALLATION

Every year, more planters are fitted with variable-rate capability, and more farmers re-port using this feature to vary seeding rates.

The technology helps to increase yields as well as leverage the value of seed investment. With todays rising grain prices any yield increase is notable.

The rising number of VRA-enabled planters and widespread on-farm use of GPS technol-ogy makes it easier than ever to develop a VRA strategy. Farmers still need reliable methods to identify candidate fields, select appropriate seeding rates and evaluate whether their strat-egy was effective.

Extensive field research has documented the value of planting higher seeding rates in more productive field areas and decreasing rates where productivity is lower. To maximize VRA value, appropriate crop management zones must be defined for the field. Long term yield maps and soil analysis for

management zones are usually the best source to determine management zones.

Typically, farmers should designate three to four seeding rates per field. To be meaningful, seeding rates should differ by at least 3,000 to 4,000 seeds per hectare.

Create each field prescription using mapping software and export the prescription to a USB memory stick. Field prescriptions should in-clude check strips or blocks to evaluate pre-scription effectiveness.

NWK Beperk en RoninPFS het sowat twee jaar gelde besluit om kragte saam te snoer om RTK-korreksieseine vir landbou-werktuie beskikbaar te stel. So is daar alreeds op twee van NWK se silo’s, naamlik die Halfpad-silo tussen Lichtenburg en Coligny en die Sannieshof-silo, RTK ba-sisstasies deur Ronin opgerig en in werking gestel. Produsente huur dan die RTK-korreksiesein by NWK en Ronin teen ‘n werklik mededingende tarief.

WAAROM DIE RTK-PAD?Die hoë produksiekoste van graan-gewasse dwing produ-sente om meer koste-effektief te produseer. Een kostesentrum waar daar ‘n geleentheid is om koste te bespaar, is by megan-isasie. Akkurate korreksieseine maak dit nou moontlik dat ‘n produsent met elke bewerking op presies dieselfde spoor kan

In so ‘n stelsel word die grond vooraf chemies behoorlik reg-gestel en alle verdigte sones word (verkieslik) algeheel opge-breek. Nou is die tafel vir ‘n ver-minderde bewerkingstelsel of ‘n geenbewerkingstelsel behoorlik gedek. Trekkerspore word nou vir die volgende aantal seisoene met behulp van RTK-korreksie-seine uitgemerk en op die trekker se beheerstelsel gestoor. Alle landverkeer vir die toekoms ge-skied deur op dié trekkerspore te ry. Die res van die land, be al die plantsones, bly dit oor jare behoorlik los en kan daar nou geplant wpord sonder om weer ‘n diep primêre grondbewerking uit te voer. ‘n Ander variasie op

dié tema is dat die plantsones in ‘n rip-op-ry-spoorverkeerstelsel met RTK-korreksieseine losge-maak word en daar jaarliks op dié sones geplant word, sonder dat die diep skeurploegbew-erking weer gedoen word. In hierdie stelsels moet planters aangepas word om effektief in stoppel te plant.

Kompaksiebestuur is een van die belangrikste sleutelsukses-faktore vir ‘n geenbewerkings-telsel om oor die langtermyn te oorleef. Gewasse behoort nie op ‘n trekkerspoor geplant te word nie. Beheerde spoorverkeer is die enigste manier om dit ef-fektief te bestuur en RTK-korrek-sieseine is die antwoord waarop landbou al lank gewag het. Dit is waarskynlik een van die spronge wat gewasproduskie nodig het om te maak om volhoubaar die toekoms in te gaan. PF

Why is a base station so accurate?With thebasestationyouhaveasetpointonearththatisonyourfarmorcloseby.Thetractorwillreceiveddatafromthatpointandthesattelitecon-stellationchangingwillnothavetheeffectthatithaswithfreesignalorevenOmnistar.ThesuccessoftheTheronfamilylaysinthefullusagefortheircurrentfarmsandinworkingaccuratelyyounotonlysavemoneybuttimeaswell.PF
