About 2500 patients complaining of paroxysmal or periodic miscellaneous symptoms were examined electroencephalographically during the past 7 years. On these people detailed clinical examination and routine and repeated electroencephalographic recordings were performed. In many instances, some of activation methods such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, metrazol, megimide or diphenhydramine injection and sleep activation were utilized.

The thalamie and hypothalamic epilepsy has been regarded as an epi- leptic equivalent usually associated with grand rnal epilepsy. However, I am of opinion that diencephalic epilepsy without accompanying grand real seizure is frequently found among not only inpatients but also outpatients of general medical practices.

About 2500 patients complaining of paroxysmal or periodic miscellaneous symptoms were examined electroencephalographically during the past 7 years. Excluding those having either history or electroencephalographic finding of grand real or petit real seizure or other organic diseases such as brain tumor, 814 people showing paroxysmal abnormal EEG were selected (see Table 1). On these people detailed clinical examination and routine and repeated electroencephalographic recordings were performed.

In many instances, some of activation methods such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, metrazol, megimide or diphenhydramine injection and sleep activation were utilized.
