The CampusRural Acre campus combines historic fieldstone buildings with modern architecture in a friendly, student centered environment.

Location Less than 13 miles from downtown Wilkes-Barre, located off of Interstate 81 and Route 309N, thirty minutes from the ski areas of the Poconos and two hours from Philadelphia, New York City, and Penn State University Park.

HousingAlthough Penn State Wilkes-Barre does not have on-campus University-owned housing available for students, there are privately owned housing options adjacent to campus as well as off campus housing opportunities within the community.

SportsPenn State Wilkes-Barre is a member of Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC), and we compete for national championships as a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The USCAA also provides student-athletes with the opportunity for academic and athletic All-American recognition! A variety of seasonal intramural programs are offered throughout the year.

Directions to CampusFrom the North & South From I-81, take Exit 170-B to Rt. 309 North (not Rt. 309 Business), and go approximately 6.8 miles to Hillside Road. Turn left at the traffic light onto Hillside Road. After 3.2 miles, the road changes to Old Route 115. Continue for 2.2 miles; the campus will be on your left.

From the EastTake 80 West to the Northeast Extension (I-476). Exit the Northeast Extension using Exit 105 (Wilkes-Barre Interchange). Turn left on Rt. 115 heading North (downgrade). Follow Rt. 115 which merges directly into Rt. 309 North at I-81. Go approximately 6.8 miles to Hillside Road. Turn left at the traffic light onto Hillside Road. After 3.2 miles, the road changes to Old Route 115. Continue for 2.2 miles; the campus will be on your left.

From the WestTake I-80 East to I-180 West. Proceed North on I-180 to Rt. 405 (about 15 minutes). Turn right onto Rt. 405. At first light, turn left heading towards Hughesville. In Hughesville, turn right at second light onto Rt. 118 East. Follow Rt. 118 East (approximate 45 minutes) to Old 115. (Look for a blue Penn State sign.) Bear right onto Old 115, and proceed approximately 1/2 mile. The campus is on the right.

How long can I study at Penn State Wilkes-Barre? The answer depends on your educational goals. We offer a variety of baccalaureate and associate degree programs that can be completed at Wilkes-Barre. You can also choose to take your first two years of course work for more than 160 majors here, then complete your studies at another Penn State campus. Part-time study is also an option.

Who can help me decide which education opportunities are best for me? Initially, you can meet with an admissions counselor to discuss the program(s) of interest and complete an application. Once accepted, you will be assigned a faculty adviser to help you make the appropriate decision for your career or educational goals. One on one advising is available for all students through our professional advising staff.

What if I am not ready to choose a major when I enroll? Many students begin college unsure of what they want to study. Others start in one area, and then change their minds. In most cases, Penn State does not require you to declare a major until the end of your sophomore year. If you are undecided, enroll in the Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS). DUS encourages exploration in a variety of academic programs for your first two years.

What if I need help paying for my education? Each year, students with strong academic records are awarded in excess of $200,000 in campus scholarships. Among first year students, one out of five receives an academic scholarship. Students at our campus benefit from many specialized scholarships and awards. Approximately two-thirds of Penn State students receive financial aid through scholarships, grants, loans and work opportunities. Penn State offers affordable ways to accomplish your goals. Penn State students seeking financial aid must log onto our web site at wb.psu.edu and fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Form (FAFSA). In addition, incoming freshman are automatically screened for Penn State Wilkes-Barre scholarships when they apply for admission.

What kind of college life will I find at Penn State Wilkes-Barre? On campus activities abound for those who wish to participate. You can join more one of more than a dozen student organizations, or attend cultural events, musical or comedy performances, or guest lectures. Influence campus and University programs and policy through Student Government Association (SGA). Join in the annual Haunted Forest, a THON event, the annual student run dance marathon benefitting children with cancer. Compete in an intramural sport or work out in the weight room. The possibilities are numerous. Off campus, the city of Wilkes-Barre offers a variety of cultural events, professional sports, concert venues, shopping and dining.
