Assembling the Quilt Top:Refer to the picture of the finished quilt and lay out the36 Nine Patches and 25 alternate Medium Blue Print squares. Place Medium Blue Print corner triangles in the 4 corners and Medium Blue Print setting triangles on the sides of the quilt. Assemble the quilt in diagonal rows as shown.

Press seam allowances toward the Medium Blue Print triangles and squares. Sew the rows together and press seams to one side.

Borders: Trim sides of the quilt leaving ¼” seam allowance beyond the corner points of the Nine Patches. The quilt should measure approximately 38 ½” square.Sew on the 3” border strips of Dark Blue Tonal fabric. If the WOF measures in excess of 41,” you will need only 4 border strips; attach with a partial seam technique as shown below. If the WOF is less than 41,” piece the 3” strips as necessary for border strips.

Press seam allowances toward the borders.

Quilt as desired. An all-over design with blue thread is suggested. Bind with 2 ½” strips of Dark Blue Tonal fabric.

Variations: Use scraps to make Nine Patches of various colors; use a dark tonal for the alternate squares and setting triangles. Or use 5” charm squares of various coordinating prints and tonals; make Nine Patches of White and a Solid.

Begin with this strip, but stop sewing 1” from the corner of the quilt top, leaving a “tail” of border fabric. Work counter clockwise to add the other 3 border strips. End by sewing the tail to the quilt and across the top of the 4th border strip.
