1. Understand design and research tools, methods and skills used in creative media production.

Through a selection of class tasks you will need to demonstrate what primary and secondary research is, undertake small projects and deliver your findings using research design tools such as infographics.

2. Understand primary and secondary research sourcesBefore you embark on your main research project, you will be required to put a plan together on how you will research. What primary and secondary resources you will need and you will need to demonstrate your ability to Harvard reference these findings

3. Be able to use design and research tools, methods and skills to inform ideas for creative media production

This will enable you to demonstrate your learning through a research project. We will ask you to research into factual programming

BBC ThreeBBC Three are looking for short, access-led documentaries exploring subjects or issues that are affecting communities around the UK.Think about larger than life characters or a new approach.They are not looking for investigations or expose’s but are interested in unusual and underreported stories and issues that matter to young people such as:

Health and lifestyle Online/internet Food Sex, love and relationships Identity, culture and gender

Your task is to research a range of approaches to documentary filmmaking investigating codes and conventions, formats and genres, platforms and, target audiences for your chosen topic. This research project forms the backbone to your Unit 1 project. As with all factual programmes, the content must be researched thoroughly, be accurate and come from a range of reliable sources. You will use this information to produce a presentation pitching your documentary to a panel. You will need to design a creative and persuasive pitch using infographics and your research to support your case. You will also need to produce a written treatment to support your pitch.

Fine Print

You will need to put a plan together on how you will research this project. What primary resources you will use (survey monkeys, phone conversations, emails) and what secondary research you will use (list of websites, list of documentaries you will reference / look at to gather information, books or journals you will use)

Within this research you will include a variety of PRIMARY and SECONDARY research which will include internet, books, emails, surveys and interviews/focus groups

Your research will be presented in the form of written analysis, footage (found) and infographics which will all be referenced using the Harvard reference system.

All information must be uploaded to your Unit 2 tab by your last lesson the week of 20th October

Unit aim: Provide students with an introductionto a range of design and research activities and related skills appropriate to the support of creative media production. The unit will also develop an understanding of the vital role that design and research play in informing and developing ideas.

Grading Criteria

Learning outcomes

Understand design and research tools, methods and skills used in creative media production.

An up to date website which includes ALL small projects and lesson activities undertaken this year

Understand primary and secondary research sources.

A plan of all the research (primary and secondary) you will undertake and why you have chosen that method for this research project

Be able to use design and research tools, methods and skills to inform ideas for creative media production.

Gather all research on your chosen project and present it in a professional way using infographics, Harvard referencing and written reports.

If any work is ‘cut and paste’, not referenced using the Harvard reference system or copied into your own words without referencing the source you will automatically fail the project.
