MEN’S SOCCER The Vikings will play at home for the first time this season when CSU hosts Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 14) at Krenzler Field. CSU is 3-2 after splitting two matches in Rhode Island last weekend, falling to Brown (2-0) and defeat-ing Siena in double overtime (3-2). Admir Suljevic got the Vikings on the board in the third minute and CSU took a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute on a goal by Aaron Adkins. Siena scored two second half goals, but Cazz Warren netted the game-winner less than two minutes into the second overtime.

WOMEN’S TENNIS OPENS 2012 SEASON Cleveland State kicks off the 2012 fall season this weekend, com-peting at the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, Ind. The Invite is a two-day event, with action on Friday (Sept. 14) and Sunday (Sept. 15). The Vikings return all but one player from last season’s squad, led by seniors Nicole Janek, Maria Lazaris and Mengdi Liu. Janek and Lazaris enter their final seasons tied for sixth on the career singles wins list with 55 victories, while junior Alex Power is just shy of the top-10 with 41 career wins. Juniors Alex Bush and Kara Sherwood round out the returning let-terwinners for 2012 with freshman Ellen Folkers the lone newcomer on the roster.

MEN’S TENNIS The Vikings will open the 2012 fall season this weekend, competing at the Western Michigan Invitational on Friday (Sept. 14), Saturday (Sept. 15) and Sunday (Sept. 16). CSU will be one of six teams at the invite, joined by Green Bay, Xavier, Notre Dame, Illinois State and the host Broncos. Six letterwinners return for CSU this season, led by two-time Horizon League honoree Matt Kuelker and his classmate Matt Ford. Senior Jay Jones and sophomores Nolan Marks, Ali Shabib and Jorg van der Vloet make up the rest of the returners. This group will be joined by two newcomers, freshman Joe VanMeter and sophomore Niklas Jonsson.

WOMEN’S SOCCER The Vikings return home to host Longwood on Sunday (Sept. 16) at 1:00 p.m. in CSU’s lone contest of the week. CSU is 2-5 this season after dropping two matches last week. The Vikings were dealt a 2-0 loss by Akron at Krenzler Field on Friday (Sept. 7) and a 2-1 setback at Ohio on Sunday (Sept. 9). Vickie Havas scored the goal at Ohio off an assist by Jackie Kurgan. It allowed Havas to take over the team lead with seven points on two goals and a team-leading three assists.

MEN’S GOLF CSU returns to action at the Marshall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 10-11). The 54-hole event will be played at the par-71, 6,573-yard Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W. Va. The Vikings opened the season on Sept. 2-3 at the Turning Stone Invitational. Andrew Bailey and Mi-chael Balcar tied for 12th place overall as the Vikings finished seventh of 13 teams.

VOLLEYBALL The Vikings will participate in their final non-conference tournament of the season this weekend, competing in the West Virginia Invitational on Sat-urday, September 15. Cleveland State will open play against Murray State at 1:00 p.m. and will face the host Mountaineers at 5:00 p.m. CSU enters the week with a 7-4 record after pick-ing up wins against Buffalo and Eastern Kentucky at the CSU Invite. Kara Koch has a team-high 195 kills, while Marie Frease has 98 and Kerry Winchester has 88. Amanda Medvetz leads the defense with 189 digs, while the trio of Dayna Roberts (117), Brittany Holland (109) and Kara Koch (105) have all reached 100 digs.

WOMEN’S GOLF CSU will be out of action until next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 17-18) at the Chicago State Invitation-al. The Vikings opened the season over the weekend at the Bucknell Lady Bison Invitational, placing 10th of 15 teams with rounds of 321-328-330. Freshman Allyson Hackman paced the Vikings, tying for 25th place as she fired rounds of 81-79-79 (239). Senior Ariel Sparrow tied for 37th place, carding rounds of 80-85-79 for a 54-hole total of 244.

CROSS COUNTRY CSU continues its 2012 schedule this Saturday (Sept. 15) with the Friendship Invitational in Cedar-ville, Ohio. The women’s collegiate 5K is slated for a 10:15 a.m. start on the Cedarville University campus. Last time out, the Vikings placed fifth at the De-troit Titan Invitational, led by sophomore Tori Holt who ran a sub 20-minute 5K for the first time in her collegiate career. Holt crossed the finish line in 19:59, placing 30th overall.

laSt WeekHolt ran a sub-20 minute 5K for the first time in her collegiate career on Saturday at the Detroit Titan Invitational. She paced the Vikings with a 30th place finish in 19:59, also becoming the first CSU harrier to break the 20 minute mark this season.
