Vikings

The Vikings came from the area we know as Scandinavia, which includes the nations of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Scandinavia was originally an agricultural society that produced its own iron good and conducted some minor trading. Evidence suggests that the rapid population growth created so much pressure on the limited amount of land that the people turned to the sea as raiders. In medieval times, the Vikings placed dragons on the front of their ships to scare off sea monsters.

Historians agree that the Vikings were fierce and that they conducted surprise raids from the sea. However, the Vikings also developed the technology to build the most maneuverable and fastest sea worthy vessels in the world, known as longships. Many Vikings were also experienced farmers, fishermen, iron workers, traders and writers.
