Moves to Brussels and studies at Royal Academy of Art

Starts painting in his late twenties

Color palette is sombre earth tones

Moves to Paris in 1886 & discovers impressionists

Complains that brother Theo is not selling his work-theo says too dark

In 1888 Cut off part of his own ear after a fight w/ Gauguin, they part company
