Virtual Classroom: Students
The Virtual Classroom tool provides a convenient way for students and faculty to hold virtual meetings within D2L. You can use webcams, microphones, and chat to communicate with one another. These meetings can be recorded, you can share your screen, write on a whiteboard, and there is the ability to upload PDF’s, PowerPoints, and other Office documents.
In this tutorial, you will:
Attend a Virtual Classroom Meeting
Navigate the Meeting Room
Control the Presentation when given Presenter Rights
Attend a Virtual Classroom Meeting
Students can attend a Virtual Classroom meeting with their instructor and classmates from within the D2L Brightspace course.
1. Go to Materials -- Content tool in your course.
2. From the content topic, click on the link to a virtual classroom meeting.

3. Click Enter Meeting Room.
Note: If this button is not clickable, you will need to wait until the exact Starting Time date/time to be able to enter the session, or until your instructor has started the meeting.

4. After entering the meeting, you can interact with your instructor and classmates.
Navigate the Meeting Room
1. Upon entering the meeting room, click Microphone to enable your microphone, or click Listen
Only to enter the meeting room without enabling a microphone.
o If you select Microphone, you will be taken to an Audio Test screen. Speak into the
microphone, and select Next if the bar moves.
o You can select Test Speakers to confirm your speakers are working properly.
o If you select Cancel you will join the meeting without a microphone enabled.

2. To chat with the entire group, send a message by typing in the Public Chat menu and clicking
Send.
o To send private messages to specific members of the Meeting, click Options
and select the individual you wish to chat with.

Control the Presentation when given Presenter Rights
Students can control the presentation when given Presenter Rights by the instructor. Here are some of the ways students can use Presenter Rights.
1. To upload a file into the group chat area, click Send File.
Note: All files will be uploaded for the entire group to see. There is no option to send files privately.
2. To upload a presentation, at the bottom left of the screen, click the Upload Presentation icon.

3. Click Select File to upload a PowerPoint Presentation, PDF JPEG, Word Document, or other
office documents. Once the file is selected, click Upload.
Note: You can add more than one file to the Presentation. To choose which file to display in the
Presentation, click Upload Presentation and select Show next to the file.
Students can control the whiteboard feature when given Presenter Rights as well.
1. On the Presentation page, click the Next slide arrow to access the blank
Whiteboard. If the current Presentation is not the default, you will need to click Upload
Presentation and click Show on the default.pdf Presentation.
2. All of the following tools are available in the default.pdf Presentation mode and when you
upload your own documents in the Presentation mode:
o Use the Pencil to draw on the Whiteboard. Make changes to the color of the
Pencil by clicking the Select Color icon . Change the thickness of the Pencil by
increasing or decreasing the Whiteboard draw thickness bar.
o Use the Rectangle feature to create a rectangle. Use the Circle feature to
create a circle. Use the Triangle feature to create a triangle. Use the Line
feature to create a line.

Note: You can change both the color and thickness of all shapes by following the same
procedure as the Pencil instructions above.
o Add words or letters by selecting the Text icon . You can change the text color
and size from the menus that appear when you place the Text on the Whiteboard.
o Clear all of the Whiteboard notes and shapes by clicking the Clear All Annotations
icon . To undo just the last annotation, select Undo Annotation .
o To zoom in and out of the current slide on the Presentation, use the slider to increase or
decrease the screen percentage . You can then use the Pan and
Zoom tool to move around the Presentation.
