ALM108 Large SAP Systems - Performance Characteristics and Examples of Performance Challenges

The larger an SAP system, the more care needs to be taken to ensure good performance, for end users as well as for batch jobs. Many customers approach SAP to ask for performance references to help them understand feasibility and pitfalls. Especially in a global context, many customers consider moving their system to a single global instance where users connect to one system (nearly) 24 hours a day, while at the same time batch jobs and maintenance windows need to be scheduled. This lecture will answer questions such as: How, if at all, can you anticipate the performance behavior of custom coding? Is SAP software able to process hundreds of thousands of customer order line items per day, several thousand concurrent users, and two-digit terabytes of data storage? The lecture will include many examples from actual installations and high volume tests.

CD103 ABAP Development Guidelines

ABAP is a vibrant, evolving language which is almost 30 years old. New developments in ABAP are introduced either through additions to the existing feature set or replacement (and thereby making superfluous or obsolete) of current features while SAP's practice of maintaining strict downward compatibility prevents the total extinction of obsolete features from the language. This issue of superfluity and obsolescence can be troublesome. The ABAP programming guidelines help you to find your way through that jungle of possibilities and to create programs that are correct, robust, readable, maintainable, and up-to-date.

CD200 Best Practices in Porting and Migrating Java Enterprise Applications to SAP NetWeaver

The "Write Once Run Everywhere" promise of plain Java applications (Java SE) is built in the design of the platform – thanks to the concept of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). In case of Java Enterprise applications (Java EE) this promise can be somewhat tedious: a Java EE runtime platform is a non-trivial extension of a JVM. Even though the Java EE runtime platforms have to follow a well defined set of open standards (the so-called Java EE specification), applications tend to use tempting but proprietary vendor-specific features, sometimes without even being aware. This works against Java's portability promise while trying to port/migrate such an application across different vendor platforms. Fortunately, the newest features of the Java EE technology stack (Java EE 5 and higher) significantly smoothen the porting efforts.

SIM102 Security for Business Process-centric Applications with SAP

The deployment of applications for management of business processes and the application of service-oriented architecture concepts in enterprise environments calls for an evolution to IT security. For example, SAP's business process management (BPM) applications follow business process workflows and frequently work across several functional enterprise application areas. To be secure, BPM applications must apply not only to technical security functionality, but also to security design principles, organizational and administrative control measures, enforcing compliance, accountability, separation of duty, and privilege principles. This session offers an introduction to the security functionality supported for applications, using SAP NetWeaver as a technology backbone, and a higher level systematic approach to use for selecting the technical security functionality, available for SAP applications, for deployment in enterprise application scenarios.

SIM200 SAP Security Services - How to use the Early Watch Alert Self Service to Secure SAP Systems

Software security remains a critical topic of interest to all customers and to the information technology industry. As you may know, SAP regularly publishes security-related SAP notes on the SAP Service Marketplace. However, in the past it was quite difficult to identify these notes which are relevant for a given SAP system. Now, with the new version of the Early Watch Alert, we guide you to identify and solve critical security vulnerabilities. You will learn how to find relevant security-related SAP notes for a given SAP system, implement them, and finally report about your successful hardening of the SAP system. In addition, you will see how to analyze users with critical authorizations and how to find and secure SAP standard users which still may have their standard passwords.

SOA206 Process and SOA Guidelines for SAP's ISV Partners

Wouldn't it be nice if business applications from SAP's ISV partners, which integrate with the SAP Business Suite, would "work like" SAP Business Suite solutions? If so, SAP customers could implement new business process, which span ISV and SAP Business Suite solutions easier, faster, at lower cost, and with higher quality results. SAP customers could (re)-use SOA tools and components such as SAP NetWeaver Process Integration, SAP NetWeaver CE and Enterprise Services Repository, and all their experience which they built around SOA with SAP for the ISV solutions they want. For following this idea SAP launched an initiative to produce detailed technical and architectural guidance for SAP's ISV partners on different levels. We will present the guidance around the processes and SOA in this presentation.
