Further Information: The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and

rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made

up almost entirely of volunteers, with 229 units located

throughout New South Wales. The units comprise of

approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily

identified by their distinctive orange overalls.

While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm

operations, the SES also provides the majority of general

rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road

accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue,

evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other

forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local

threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have

been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance

Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers

also support the full-time emergency services during major

disasters.

owners in Hat Head to join our group. We accept donations

Activities: Rescue, rehabilitation and release of injured, orphaned and

disadvantaged wildlife and relocation of wildlife that are

causing distress to the community.

Training courses, fundraising barbecues, (e.g. Bunnings),

making equipment, sewing pouches and liners, knitting

beanies, telephone roster covering 24/7 in shifts of 4-5 hours

or from 1700 hours to 0800 the next day.

Tasks & Opportunities: After membership approved and training undertaken members

work from their own homes taking wildlife into care for rehab

and release. Telephone roster shifts can qualify eligible

volunteers for centrelink volunteers allowance.

Further Information: FAWNA operates from Bulahdelah to the top of the Kempsey

LGA and we are always looking for more volunteers to help

with the large number of wildlife that comes to us. 3300

animals, birds and reptiles last financial year.

Membership is required, training is mandatory, volunteers are

covered by Volunteer Insurance. FAWNA buys animal foodstuffs

in bulk and sells it to members at half the cost. It can be costly

to rehabilitate wildlife and members must purchase their own

equipment but FAWNA tries to buy in things to help ease the

cost to volunteers.

We are in the process of starting cadets/junior brigade for ages

12 to 16 years. They will learn everything that they need to

know about fire fighting but will not be allowed to attend fires

and incidents until they are 16.
