After a long expecting time, at the begin-ning of August 2009, all Wata members

could be all together in a common home

  – Watavn.org – with a new appearanceand new functions that surprise both the

members and the web design team itself.

The new forum website is highlightedwith the wooden-brown background re-

flecting a classical yet not outmodedstyle. Flowers and greens are moderately

added to provide readers with a pleasant

feeling when using the site.

Not only the interface but also functions

of the new forum are paid a great atten-tion. The new structure includes six

  parts. They are arranged appropriately

so that you can easily see what major you want and share. Also, there are some

new parts such as Musicbox – a placewhere people can enjoy and share only

music, and Love message – where we

can send sweet messages or best wishesto one another.

We have gone a great length in our achievements so far and we still have

some exciting news to tell you.

Our Wata’s homepage will come tolife in the middle of October this

year (yeah not next year!!!). The

introduction of the homepage willalso mark the commencement of

speaking topics

Set 1 – 27 September 2009

Topic 1:

Some people prefer to work for large companies.

Others prefer to work for small companies.Which would you prefer? Use specific reasons

and examples to support your answers.(Recommended by Thao Tran)

Topic 2: Role play

You have just graduated and got a good job in

an international company and your parents are

really happy at that. However, you really wishto go abroad to study more but your parents

really want you to focus on your current career. They also prefer you to live beside them be-

cause you are the only child in the family.

Role A: son/daughter. Try to persuade your  parents to permit you to go abroad for further

studyRole B: Parents (mother/father): Explain the

advantages of staying in Vietnam and building

up the career as well as persuade your

son/daughter to stay at home. (Recommended by Thao Tran)

Set 2 – 4 October 2009

Topic 1:

In most countries the legal retirement age for

men is five years older than that for women,

even though women live longer than men onaverage. Why do you think there is such a

contradiction between the retirement age andthe life expectancy? Is this fair for women and

men, and should it be changed?

Topic 2: Chinese whispering

Chinese whispering is a game in which a mes- sage is passed from one person to another one

by whispering. The key is that the whisper   should be passed once only and the listener either has to pay all the attention to the message

or makes a guess of the content. After the mes- sage comes back to the initiator, the originalityof the message is revealed. It is a helpful game  for listening, picking out the main ideas and   paraphrasing. It also exemplify how distorted and wrong a message becomes after a string of  gossiping. Each member should be the initiator once. Try

to come up with an averagely complicated sen-

tence and pass it once by telling the listener

ONCE only. As the conference is on Skype,

make a private connection to the listener only to pass the message. Hopefully, it will be funny.

Set 3 – 11 October 2009

Topic 1:

The story that a university student attacks histeacher with acid as he fails the English examand cannot get the degree has caused a stir in public opinion. You can know more about this

story via this link .Some feel sympathy for him as they think that  spending four hard years at the university with-out receiving the degree to earn a living did lead him to the deadlock while others are dis-contented with his cruel action to his teacher. How about your own opinion about the

student’s action? Which side of the argument do

you agree? What are the underlying causes of such grievous

situation?

Topic 2: Role-playing

Your friend has just failed the university en-trance examination and felt extremely de-  pressed as he/she thinks that his/her failurewould close every door to a successful futurelife. As his or her close friend, you try your best

to comfort and give some pieces of useful ad-vice to your friend.Role A: as the friend who fails the exam,

showing your despair and worries about a

gloomy futureRole B: as the close friend, try to comfort the

friend and give advice on what can be done

What's happened to you? A: I have crush on a guy at my working place.  He's not very handsome but he is nice and lovely. We work at the same department but  I've never found a chance to talk to him. He's amarketing executive and I'm just a salesperson. I just can observe him from a distance. Pleasehelp me. Every time I made attempt to ap- proach him, my heart seemed to fall out of my

chest. What can I do now? B: Listen, listen up. Are you serious? What do you know about him? A: I knew him one month ago. I know his name. That's all. And he's very kind to everyone and my friends like him too. But no one ever makeconversation with him. I'm going to quit my jobin one week. I have no time to waste. Can you give me any suggestion?  B: Okay, calm down. I think you need to gothrough some steps. First step, you should have

talk with him first to see if he's got girlfriend or not and... A: I don't care if he's got a girlfriend. B: oh, okay, okay. I see. So let's move on. Hmm,  second step, again try to make most of anychance to have a talk to him first. Topics candepend on real situation at that time. You can  go nowhere in your relationship with him if  you just observe him from afar. Right? A: I know but HOW TO? Run into him and say

sorry and... B: I don't know. Maybe he got hurt hundreds of times like that and that don't impress him much.

A: So what i can do now? ...

Topic 1:

Would you decide to approach that

object? If yes, how are you going to do that? If no, give reasons why you are not approach

effects a vegetarian diet can have on a person? Are you a vegetarian or trying vegetarian dishes

as a part of your diet? How do you find the dishes

in comparison with the meat-based ones? Shareyour experiences about vegetarian foods with the

others.

Topic 2: role-playing

Despite the fact that you are a busy with your work, your husband and your children are not helping you to keep the house neat, cook, nor doany of the dishes. Therefore, you have been staying up until 2:00 am in order to finish all of  your housework. Have a talk with one or all of them. Two or three members can participate in this play-ing

your disapproval at the husband and the childrenRole B and C: as the husband and one of the

children, try to give excuses for your neglect at

Set 6 – 1 November 2009

Topic 1:

In France, people drink champagne not to get

drunk but to enjoy its flavor and the way it en-hances food. French Champagne is highly re-vered and is often associated with celebrationand luxury. Because of this champagne culture in France, French kids are allowed to get their first taste of champagne at a very early age.

In your opinion, is it good or bad to let childrentaste alcohol at that early age?

When and how should parents introduce their children to alcohol?

Looking for more drinking advice, you can visit

official website Drinking and you.(Recommended by Jasmine)

Topic 2:

An unlicensed, drunken teenager was driving when he rammed into a car. He got out and went towards the car in anger. He yelled at the driver and kicked at the car furiously. One moment later, the driver in an officer uniform got out of the car and began to talk to the teenager ...

Twenty minutes later, the teen was waiting for his parents behind the bar.

In this role playing topic, 2 students are needed tomake a conversation between the teenager and the

officer.

Student A (the teenager): imagine you were the

teenager in the story. And you are too drunk torealize the situation you're involved in. Argue

with the policeman and try to be as irrational as

possible. To give you a start, there are someoptions below you can choose to insist on:

- The man is trying to threaten you by pretending

to be an officer with a stolen uniform.- Ask the man for his authority card.

- You are not drunk.

- Or you are doing your homework given by your driving instructor.

...

Student B (the officer): Talk to the teen and try to

make him aware of the situation he's getting in.And if word doesn't work, as an experienced

officer you will know how to deal with such guys.

Right? (Recommended by Jasmine)

and it is also a hot topic among student communi-ty. It is considered as a significant problem in

ble, share your experiences about plagiarism? In

your opinion, how can plagiarism be preventedin educational environment?

Topic 2: Mai An Tiem’s puzzle

You all know the story about Mai An Tiem and

the watermelon. In short, after saying a disturbedtruth about his superior, the Hung King, Mai An

Tiem was sent to an isolated island to prove hiswords. Actually, the King allowed An Tiem to

bring 3 things to support his family’s life on the

island. If you were Mai An Tiem, what wouldyou choose to bring along? Bearing in mind that

the story happened in the era of Hung King

which ran from 2880 to 258 BC, hence, some-thing like a shotgun or an iPod would be a pecu-

H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu)

2009 H1N1 (referred to as “swine flu” early on) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new

virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. This virus is spreading from person-to

person worldwide, probably in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses are spread. On June

11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) signaled

that a pandemic of 2009 H1N1 flu was underway. Flu

viruses are spread mainly from person to person through

coughing or sneezing by people with influenza. Sometimes

people may become infected by touching something – such

as a surface or object – with flu viruses on it and then

touching their mouth or nose.

In Vietnam, there are 4.902 cases that tested positive for

H1N1, and 6 deaths without age limit.

August 29 is a special day as it is the King of Pop's birthday.

Michael Jackson did not live long enough to celebrate his 51st

birthday but his fans remember him everyday. The people in Las

Vegas set a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame as the gift for his

birthday. In Brooklyn, Spike Lee, the director of the video clip

“They don’t care about us” by Michael Jackson, also organized the

birthday celebration at Prospect Park where thousands of fans

were assembling after a downpour. They gathered together to

dance and sing along Michael‘s hit-songs from his earlier performances as a member of Jackson Five to those

latest ones. Emerging from the crowd is the huge white birthday cake

written “Happy Birthday Michael”. The sky was covered with balloons and of course, neither flowers nor card

could be absent in such occasions.

“Dead meat” is pouring into Viet Nam

Vietnam is becoming the consuming market of frozen unqualified meats which have been imported frommany foreign countries. The fact of import management loosely contribut-

ed into the uncontrolled increase of imported frozen meats. “In 2007, Viet

Nam imported 44.178 tons of frozen meat. However, the number is consid-

erably increasing to 119.130 tons. Particularly, in June, the amount of

frozen meat was 57,206 tons”, Ministry department of Animal Health and

Production said. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy Chief of the department,

indicated that the economic crisis, which caused the state of in-stock goods,

led foreign countries exported frozen meat with very cheap and bargaining

prices. He said that it was the high time that Vietnam stipulated more

restrictive regulations for limiting to import frozen unqualified products. It

is also the solution to protecting internal breeding and civil health.

As a senior student in university, everyone has to make a choice in this year.

It means you have to think about your

future before graduating from the school.Some will try to find a job for themselves;

some may apply for postgraduate course tofurther their education. Some may not have

any plans at all. They just wait, and wait.Wait for the graduation day.

For me, my parents want me to stay

on at the campus since they think I’m not

ready for what lies ahead. According tothem, I am still so young and not capable

of handling social issues as an adult. Butlast week, one job interview has made them

stop worrying bout me and change their

 plan.

Last week, a very nice company,

which business includes the Chinese welllogging overseas markets, came to my

school and sought to employ some students

to work for them so as to develop their future business of the company’s overseas

markets. Therefore, just like the other stu-

dents, I spent much time to prepare for theinterview in hope that I would be recruited.

I was my very first job interview ever.

Before the interview, just as usual, I madea call to my parents to let them know about

it. Would this interview be a challenge or achange for me? I could not tell. Because the

more I thought about it, the more I feltstressed. I recalled my three years in uni-

versity and realized I had done nothing

special. I was still obscure in the campus. If I could not be brave for once and went

for this interview, how was I supposed toknow what would happen to my future;

how was I supposed to experience anymiracle in life?

The interview was divided into

two sections. In the first section, a Chi-

nese interviewer will read your resumeand ask you several questions. If he or she

thinks that you can be capable of perform-ing the tasks the company wants you to,

you then have a chance to proceed to the

next section. In the second section, youare supposed to meet an IELTS spoken

language examiner who will have somequestions that you are expected to be ableto answer in limited time.

On that day, I was the first intervie-wee. After reading my resume and asking

questions, they let me go without reveal-

ing any results. I felt so confused at thattime and couldn’t find the reason why

they did not give me the chance to go to

the next round. But my story did not endthere. I waited outside the door for about

four hours until all the applicants hadfinished their interviews. When the inter-

 the job interview

viewers came out, I came to them and said: “Hello sir, I’m one of the applicants who

did not have the chance to go for the sec-ond interview. And honestly I don’t knowwhy. Can you tell me the reason? Please

don’t let me go home with regrets because

this is my first job interview. I hope I canat least gain some experience in order to do

better next time.” Then one of them said:“Well, you know, in fact you would be

capable of the company’s work but we

noticed that you don’t have very goodsight and our work needs healthy guys to

adapt in the working conditions. That isthe reason.” My initial response was “Ok,if you say so, why do I see some of your

employees wearing glasses; and is there

any difference between people with highmyopia and people with low myopia when

they are working? They all have to wear glasses at all time anyway. That’s what

glasses are for. They allow people with

sight weaknesses to be able to live andwork like any others.”

After hearing that the interviewersthought for a while and said: “Well, maybe

that sounds reasonable but it is late now.

So if you have time you can come to thehotel where we stay tomorrow and we will

talk about your problem.”

“Wow, there could still be a turn-

ing point so don't give it up so early!” I

thought to myself.

On the next day, just as I expected,I got the chance to go in for the second

interview and successfully passed it. I gotthat job. And it was simply very, verycool. Finally the interviewer told me “I

was so impressed by you and your words;

you are a persistent guy with a greateloquence that I appreciate so much ,that

is why I gave you a second chance.”

Well, there still is something I’m

not sure of. Does it mean another chapter

of my life has opened? Is my campus lifeover? Is this what my university has pre-

pared me for? There is still another year left for me to get the bachelor degree so

what should I do in this year? That is so

hard to plan. Like Forrest Gump says:“Life is like a box of chocolates. You

never know what you are gonna get.” I

don’t know what will happen to me. I justhope that my path bears too much frustra-

tion in the future. And in order to do that,

it is high time I made a decision for myself.

Karate

A physically weak boy: that was me. That

was the ‘me’ of two years ago. As I recallthis memory, I can only vaguely remember

how I have become as strong as I am today.

To begin with, I am a student of Social

Sciences & Humanities University. I live inthe Ho Chi Minh National University dormi-

tory where there are various types of sports

and activities such as football, basketball, volleyball and especially martial arts. Ran-

domly, I took up Karate and no, that was for

no particular reason.

Karatedo is very popular worldwide. In con-trast to other types of marial arts, Karate

does not require innate physical strength nor

height: just patience and you are ready tokick start. In karate, you mainly use your

hands to punch and legs to kick at times.

As a beginner, I felt very tired at first when-

ever I was practicing Karate. I suppose the

reason being is that I had to move in rhythmalong with my feet constantly as if I was

“dancing”! However, within a short period of time, I gradually improved to be a good

fighter in our karate class. Honestly, it has

brought me many benefits: not only enablesyou to become a strong person but also

gains you more confidence. Now I do

not feel shy anymore everytime I standin front of crowd or being put on the

spot. As opposed to it, I enjoy my study-ing with a relaxing and healthy physical

 body as well as mentality.

Undoubtedly, as a student , you surely

feel tired or possibly exhausted with

school work and other chores . There-fore, picking up a sport or a frequent

social activity is a highly recommended

idea to relax and give yourselves moreopportunities to live the real world. Per-

sonally, I would advise you to practiceKarate because it is very suitable with

the small body-build of most Asian pop-

ulation. Furthermore , it can possiblyhelp you become a great fighter to pro-

tect yourselves agianst enemies or forth-

coming dangers with some kicks or   punches at their weak points on their

bodies such as sun, temple, chin, etc. Yes,

it is a good defence considering bothgenders, everyone!

Karate has now become part of my life!

Useful shortcut keys

 Windows OS

Shortcut keys are frequently used by experienced Windows users. You possibly wonder why you should use

keystrokes as you are accustomed to using my mouse buttons.

It is definitely fast when somebody has used the mouse for a long time, hence, they do not find the keystrokesuseful. However, it will always be faster to use the keyboard than to forcefully click on windows or symbols

desired. If you get used to using shortcut keys one day, you will know how effective and rapid they are. In doing

that, you should know useful shortcut keys that are listed in the table below.

Windows Key Shortcuts:

Show Desktop

Open Windows Explorer (or Computer)

Open Windows Search

Minimize all windows

Open the Run dialog box

Open System Properties

Lock an account. If the user account has a password, the

password must be typed in again to unlock the system.

Open 3-D Flip (It is a cool graphic and available in

Windows Vista and Windows 7)

"If I Were a Boy" is a pop song by American R&Bsinger  Beyoncé Knowles. It was written by Toby Gad

and BC Jean, and produced by Gad and Knowles for

her third solo album,   I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008).The song was released as the album's lead single to

U.S. radios on October 8, 2008. The music video for

" If I Were a Boy", directed by Jake Nava, was shot in  black and white and portrays a narrative about an

ordinary day for a couple in a role reversal that ishinted at by the lyrics but is visually revealed only at

the end of the video. It begins with Knowles and her

husband reciting words such as "intimacy","honesty", and "commitment." The song starts as her

husband prepares breakfast and Knowles takes off to

her job as police officer with an attractive male  police partner with whom the sparks are clearly

flying. While her curves are admired by the police

partner, her husband is spending time at his office  job looking up a pair of earrings to buy for her

online. The husband calls Knowles, only to be

ignored by his wife, who is out having a beer "withthe guys." That night the husband gives Knowles

the earrings and the two leave for a party at which

he catches her dancing intimately with her police partner. As the husband confronts her at home, the

reversal is revealed and roles are restored; we learnthat the husband is actually the police officer with

an attractive female partner. Knowles is the office

worker who has been snubbed. The video wasnominated for the BET Award for Video of the Year .

If I were a boy even just for a day I'd roll out of bed in the morningAnd throw on what I wanted And go drink beer with the guys

And chase after girls I'd kick it with who I wanted

And I'd never get confronted for it 'Cause they stick up for me

Chorus:If I were a boy I think I could understand

How it feels to love a girl I swear I'd be a better man

I'd listen to her 'Cause I know how it hurtsWhen you lose the one you wanted 'Cause he's taking you for granted

And everything you had got destroyed

If I were a boy I would turn off my phone

Tell everyone it's broken So they'd think that I was sleeping alone

I'd put myself first And make the rules as I go'Cause I know that she'd be faithful Waiting for me to come home, to come home

Repeat: [Chorus]

It's a little too late for you to come back Say it's just a mistake

Think I'd forgive you like that If you thought I would wait for you

You thought wrong

But you're just a boy You don't understand

And you don't understand, oh How it feels to love a girl

Someday you wish you were a better man

You don't listen to her You don't care how it hurts

Until you lose the one you wanted 'Cause you're taking her for granted

And everything you had got destroyedBut you're just a boy
