NEW DEPUTY MAYOR ELECTED I am pleased to announce Councillor Dianne Guise, Central Ward, has been elected as the City’s new Deputy Mayor and wish her all the very best for her term in the role. Cr Guise is a longstanding member of the Council, after being elected in 2009. Prior to this, she served as the Member for Wanneroo and was the Deputy Speaker in the Legislative Assembly of the Western Australian Parliament. I would also like to thank former Deputy Mayor, Cr Dot Newton JP, for her dedication and commitment to the role. Cr Newton will continue to serve the community as a Central Ward Councillor and Justice of the Peace. GENESIS CANCERCARE LODGE OPENS Last month I was honoured to attend the opening of the Genesis CancerCare Lodge at Two Rocks. This initiative was created by resident Jo Holding who offered her former bed and breakfast to Genesis CancerCare to provide regional cancer patients, and their family, a place to stay during treatment. The former bed and breakfast has undergone refurbishment with the help of Channel 7 House Rules duo Brian and Karina Day. The project has been supported by the generosity of local businesses and community members. It is truly inspiring to see the generous community spirit and I thank contributors and Genesis CancerCare staff, for supporting this much-needed service. WANNEROO SHOW I look forward to a fantastic Wanneroo Show on 27 and 28 November at the Wanneroo Showgrounds and encourage residents to support this local event. The big rides are back and this year there are numerous competitions giving locals a chance to shine. Categories include crafts, singing, animal showcases and horticulture. There are also many other exciting highlights and activities to enjoy. The wonderful gentlemen from the Wangara based Northern Men’s Shed will also be selling their woodturning wares. They are very creative and produce some amazing work, so please support them at the show or call Chairman John Norman 0417 849 509 to join. Visit the Wanneroo Show website wannerooshow.com for more information. EDEN BEACH SAFETY Since the welcome pedestrian access to the beach was opened by the developer at Eden Beach, Jindalee, there have been numerous complaints received about vehicles on the beach. In response, the City of Wanneroo has taken extra measures to ensure drivers are aware of and comply with laws which ban vehicles on beaches and sand dunes. The safety of beach users is paramount and we will not tolerate illegal activities that put residents at risk. Please report this illegal activity to City rangers on 1300 13 83 93.
