The Eternal Blight suddenly and violently emerged from warp jump and came

about to set the Battlecruiser’s orbit close to the largest planetoid of the system. The

ship’s weapon systems looked for viable targets in the void of space as the massive ship

began it’s plotted course.

On the bridge, voxcasters blared unrecognizable machine language as the foul

creatures once known as Navigators blurted the arrival in the system. The largest of the

group nodded towards a hulking space marine of the Death Guard Legion.

“My lord, we have arrived at the Calydoria system and have begun scheduled

orbit around the capital.” Ismael, first Captain of Leviticus’s Legion stated. “The

vanguard invasion force has also been notified and at this moment are preparing for

planetfall.”

A hulking figure leaned out of the shadows from his command chair and rubbed

his robotic left hand as if it ached. A few moments past before the figure stirred any

further and stood to look at the vidscreen in front of him. The vidscreen televised a lush

planet that was teaming full of life.

The figure thought to himself about the invasion that he had led here in the past.

It seemed like eons ago and the system seemed to recuperate from the war that brought

this system to its knees. He personally slew the Admistratum Prodiginus himself after

he had failed to comply with Grandfather’s teachings and had laid waste to this

godforsaken system.

He also remembered the lapdogs of the false Emperor coming to the system’s

aide. He could not understand how his former brothers of the Adeptus Astartes could

follow a broken and feeble bodied master. It befuddled him to no extent.

Leviticus peered through the vidscreen at the smaller moons of Calydoria and

pointed to the one marred by asteroid impacts. He softly spoke, “The conquest begins

there. Send the first detachment and inform them to report back with an estimation of

the defending garrison’s strength.”

Ismael bowed and simply stated, “Your wish is my command my Lord.”

Leviticus sat back down in the command chair and once again began rubbing his robotic

left hand. He thought to himself that he will make the sons of Guilliman pay for his loss

of his hand and this system will be burned to the ground once more. He caught the first

detachment’s storm ravens leaving his battlecruiser and revelled at the chance for

revenge.

The Chief Astropath squawked something to the extent of “the invasion has

begun my lord” before putting his head down to perform his duties.

“So, let it be written…” Leviticus mumbled.

The Game Shoppe is hosting a Warhammer 40,000 Escalation League. The league runs for 8

weeks with players playing up to 2 games a week and in a coop game each month. The

league starts playing off with a Patrol Detachment containing 500 points and builds every two

weeks, with the goal of reaching various detachments of 2000 point sized armies. Each month

during the league, a coop game is placed at the same point value as that of the week’s league.

These coop games provide players and opportunity to see how various armies compliment

their own and to affect the outcome of the campaign.

League Rules

• Games are played on Thursdays starting at 6 P.M. Thomas Keen the league

director will be on hand to match players up and to play players who do not

have a match.

• Players are welcomed to set up their own tables and request match ups.

League nights are a good time to play new people, and it is encouraged to play

different people each week.

• Please treat the terrain, tables, other players, league officials, store employees

and the store with care and respect. If the game is done and no one is waiting

to use your table we ask players to please help by putting away terrain and put

your table back.

• Players should have fun and resolve disputes fairly.

• In the event of a rules dispute cannot be resolved, the league director will

make a ruling. Rulings will be based on the rulebook, FAQs, and the director’s

own judgement. Rule lawyering should not occur and is discouraged.

Army Composition

• Armies follow the rules in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook and the

corresponding army book.

• Patrol Detachment will be used at first. Once the league reaches 1000 points,

different detachments may be used.

Selecting Your Army

• Players are encouraged to stick to their armies, build them, and (although

painting is not required) paint them during the league.

• Players are encouraged to try different lists, experiment with new units, and

mix things up from week to week. If you play the same army throughout the

league, you will receive 3 league points.

• No specific items, units, abilities, or psychic powers are banned. Players

should still build armies instead of min/max ‘tournament styled’ armies.

Armies that use broken combinations or are constructed to abuse certain unit

types e.g. “Alpha Strike” combos are highly discouraged as they take away

from the fun and friendly aspect of the league.

Models

• Models should represent what they are supposed to be and equipment on the

models should be accurate and identifiable. If not, please point this out to your

opponent and let him/her know what the model has.

Playing & Scoring League Games

During the duration of the escalation league, players can play up to 2 league games per week.

The first game you play each week awards you a number of league points based on the

degree of your victory.

• Crushing Victory (you have twice the victory points of your opponent) 3 points

• Win (you have more victory points than your opponent) 2 points

• Draw (players scores are the same) 1 point

• Loss 0 points

• Game Played 1 point

Each player will score at least one (1) point for each game played. The following game i.e.

second game played during the week award 1 additional point for a win/draw and 1 for

playing the game.

EXAMPLE: A player plays first game and gets a Crushing Victory…3 points for the win

and one point for playing the game. The same player plays a second game and wins, he/she

will be awarded an additional 2 points. So, the total for the day will be 6 points.

Scenarios & Victory Conditions

At the end of each game, players total their victory points. The player who scores the most

points wins, with the other player a loss. If both players score the same points, the game is a

draw. If the winning player scores twice (or more) the victory points over the losing player,

than the winning player earns a crushing victory. The degree of victory determines how many

league points a player earns per game.

Coop Games

Coop games follow the standard scoring for all The Game Shoppe games. For participating in

a coop game, players will receive an additional 1 point to the league scores. Each mission

will be unique and sometimes both players will not be on same table and/or will be

outnumbered. It is asked that players cooperate during these missions and assist your

assigned partner to win the mission regardless of the player’s standings.

Painting & Acquiring Miniatures

Although painting a player’s army is not required, it is encouraged. The league will award

points for armies painted to a minimum table top standard. This means at least 3 colors, not

including primer, and based or appropriate modelling. Painting points are awarded every

week and it is asked not to submit something that has already been painted previously. A

player can be awarded up to 3 points per week as follows:

• 1 point per fully painted non-character unit. This includes infantry, monsters,

vehicles, etc. You can only receive up to 2 points per week from this award.

• 1 point per newly painted model added to your army. You can receive up to 3

points per week from this award.

Acquiring new models aka purchasing models is what this league is all about! If during the

week a player purchases models, he/she can get league points. The player MUST show the

receipt to the league organizer (Thomas Keen). A maximum of 3 points can be earned per

week. The points awarded are:

• For a character model purchased, 1 point is awarded. Up to 2 points may be

earned this way.

• For every vehicle or squad purchased, 1 point is awarded. Up to 3 points may

be awarded.

Sportsmanship

After each game, you score your opponent’s sportsmanship by answering the following

questions on the score sheet. For each question you answer yes, your opponent receives a

sportsmanship point.

• Was your opponent prepared and bring all the materials they needed to play,

including a detailed army list for you to refer to during the game?

• Was your opponent on time and managed their turns and time well while

playing?

• Was your opponent (and his army) fun to play against and resolve disputes

fairly?

Weekly Scores & League Scoring

Each week players receive the total point from their league game, painting/purchasing points,

and sportsmanship points. This is kept as a running total for determining the overall league

champion. Points are then broken down into their categories to determine other league

awards.

Mistakes can be made when dealing with numbers and the league scoring will be posted on

the bulletin board each week to ensure scoring was done correctly and to show current

standings. IF YOUR SCORE IS INCORRECT, it is your responsibility to inform the league

organizer the week that the new scores are posted. After that week, they are set and WILL

NOT be changed.

Awards

As this league has no participation fee, the prizes will be determined as the campaign

progresses. However, this league is about having fun and welcoming players to the

Warhammer 40,000 universe. That said, awards will be given out to participants at the end of

the league based on the following criteria:

• League Champion (total of league points, coop points, painting/purchase

points, and sportsmanship points.

• Best General (total league points and coop points)

• Best Army Appearance (Total painting points)

• Sportsmanship (Total Sportsmanship points)

• Wooden Spoon (the player that scored the least of points)
