Why did you apply to Warwickshire College?I used an agent called SI-UK. I was looking for a complimentary therapies course but wanted to study English first and my agent suggested I study at Warwickshire College as you offered both. I started studying English in April 2012 and finished my Complimentary Therapies course June 2013.

Tell me about your experience at Warwickshire College?First I studied English language for 4 months and met lots of people from different countries which was a really good experience, then I moved on to the complimentary therapies course and I met lots of British students. So first I got to learn about lots of different cultures and then I got to learn more about British culture. I am still in touch with lots of friends and have been to Oman and Spain to visit them.

What have you enjoyed most about your time in the UK?I have enjoyed making friends but also have enjoyed the practical classes on my course, working with proper clients from outside of the college and being able to practice consultations and treatments with lots of different people which has given me the confidence to be a complimentary therapist.

What will you do now you have finished your course?I am now looking for work as a complimentary therapist and i don’t mind where as i have met lots of people and i love learning about cultures so if it’s in Japan, england or somewhere else it doesn’t matter. i am using the college student services to help me build a good CV and help give me advice on finding a job.

Frequently Asked Questions

international office services

How do I get a student visa? To gain a student visa to study in the UK under the points based system (PBS) you need to earn 40 points. You can gain 30 points by meeting the academic entry requirements for your chosen course of study and by being issued a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number. To gain the other 10 points you will need to show the British Embassy that you are able to cover the full cost of your course and your living expenses for the time spent in the UK. For further details please visit www.ukvisas.gov.uk

Can I work while I am studying in the UK? If you have a full student visa, you are permitted to work 10 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week during the vacation period. While working can be a great way to learn more about life in the UK and improve your language skills, this must not be at the expense of your studies. Students on Student Visitor Visas are not able to work during their time in the UK.

How do I open a bank account, register with a doctor or buy a mobile phone? You will need a letter from the college in order to do these. You can request these during your induction or by visiting the International Office. It is important that you register with a local doctor when you arrive (as a full-time student this won’t cost you any money).

How do I register with the police? Registration with the police will take place during your college induction. If you are not able to register then we can help you to book an appointment at the local police station.

Can I travel in Europe during my studies? If you have a full student visa, you can apply for a visa to any European country that is part of the Shengen agreement. There are 25 countries in the Shengen agreement and you will have to contact the embassy of each country you wish to visit to arrange a visa.

How do I get to Warwickshire College? Warwickshire College is located in the heart of the UK close to a network of motorways and train stations. The closest airport to the college is Birmingham International Airport which is less than 20 miles away and there are train stations in Leamington Spa and Rugby. If you are studying for more than six months with us you will be able to use our airport collection service.
