Wassily KandinskyKandinsky was a Russian painter who was famous for
creating abstract pictures with lots of colors and shapes.He was the first famous abstract artist!
He wanted people to enjoy the colors and the shapes in his paintings. And he said that good art does not have to look like something in a photo. Abstract art can be beautiful too!

• Abstract artists felt that paintings did not have to show only things that were recognizable.
• In their paintings they did not try to show people, animals, or places exactly as they appeared in the real world.
• They mainly used color and shape in their paintings to show emotions.

1. In pencil, write your name and code on the back of the paper.
2. Use a pencil. Start in the middle with a small circle. Keep making bigger and bigger circles until each square is filled.
3. Color them in softy with a watercolor pencil.
4. Using a paintbrush and water, paint the circles and watch the color pencils turn into paint!
If we put all of our drawings together they will look like a giant Kandinsky painting!!!
