Quaker Day Festival Features Entertainment, FunMiracle Movers Field Grand Opening to Coincide with Festival

The 2014 Quaker Day Festival, to be held on Friday, September 19 through Sunday, September 21, is putting the emphasis on family entertainment and fun this year. New is a “Family Fun Tent” which will exclusively offer games, activities and prizes for children. “The tent will still be open to all types of vendors,” said Brad DuBois, Executive Director of the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the festival. “However, all vendors in the tent must offer a kid-friendly activity, game, craft or prize.” DuBois also listed the popular features of the festival that will be back again this year. “They include the annual Quaker Day Parade, but look for a new route this year that begins and ends at the Middle School,” he said. “Also back is the “Plainfield’s Got Talent” show that begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Launch Pad Rock Studios will have an entertainment tent that showcases talent from the area including some of their students. And of course, Jessop Amusements will have carnival rides all three days. Friday night will again feature ‘arm band night’ that enables you to ride all rides all night for one low price.” Another new event is the Quaker Day 5K which will take place at the Miracle Movers Field at the Al & Jan Barker Sports Complex. The run will benefit the synthetic surface Miracle Movers Field designed for special needs children and for league play on the field. The run is $10 for race registration only; $20 for the race plus a wicking t-shirt. Online registration may be done ahead of time at (continued)

Plus, the Grand Opening of Miracle Movers Field at the Al & Jan Barker Sports Complex will be Saturday, September 20 at 4:00 p.m. “Imagine a place where the playing field for special needs children is leveled, where everyone gets a chance to score,” said Clay Chafin, Plainfield’s Parks & Recreation Director. “Think about a game where everyone is on your side, where the cheers are the loudest and the smiles are brighter than ever. This will be the setting for the softball league we’ll be offering this fall to players under 21 years of age.” After the short opening ceremony, each team will participate in a one inning game. “Residents are invited to stay after the Grand Opening ceremony to attend and witness the first games at the field that will be a part of the future of Plainfield for many years to come,” added Chafin. More information about Miracle Movers Field, how to register a special needs child for the league, or how to become a volunteer may be found on the Town’s website at townofplainfield.com.
