Ways in which my product uses, develops or challenges forms and

conventions of real media products.

• A typical convention for RnB genre music videos is to have a love interest in the video, our video features a love interest but adds to that by creating a break up, this is to reflect the mood and lyrics of the song. Most RnB music videos show a love interest in them. Our video clearly shows the love interest and the scenes before, after and during the break up.

• RnB music videos use colours to reflect the mood of the song, in our video after the break up we put a slight, but noticeable blue tint on the shots, this shows that the artist is feeling ‘blue’ and that they have just had an emotionally draining experience (the break up). This enables us to clearly show the emotion of the song and as the song is called ‘Froze’ the cold colour blue is fitting of the title.

• In RnB genre music videos the producers often make a clear distinction between what is present time and what is in the past or a dream. We have used flash backs in our music video and have clearly shown them by desaturating the shots, we chose to desaturate the shots because these memories are now bad for the artist as they will never experience them again, so the grey colourless image is good for our flash backs.

• Another typical convention of an RnB music video is the use of different locations, in our video, although they are not exotic locations, changes location in each verse, in the first verse the artist is in a park, in the second a street later on that night and the final one is at a bus station even later on that night. This gives a clear distinction between verses.

• Another convention of RnB music videos is the use of lots of different shot types, this keeps the video interesting. Our video uses lots of different shot types and varies between Close ups, Mid shots, Long shots, Extreme long shots and two shots. A reason for this is because without, viewers would find our video boring.

• RnB music videos often sell the artist, this means you show the artist in the video and people will watch it just to see the artist. We used the artist (played by Jimmy) this is to show the artist and what they look like e.g. fashion, this would make others who enjoy this artist want to look like them and talk about what they are wearing in the video.

• RnB music videos also use a certain type of costume for the male character. It is usually a hoodie, Jeans and High tops. We looked very closely at what we could get our artist to wear and we followed the conventions by putting the artist in the aforementioned costume. This will help people indentify with the artist and the genre.

• One thing we didn’t that not all RnB music videos do is have a set location/type of clip for the chorus of the song, we used a black background with a spotlight on the artist, this is normally seen in more indie music videos but we decided we would use this in our video as we liked the idea and were pleased with the result.

• My Digipak conforms with the RnB genre because; it sells the artist (You can clearly see the artist on the front, middle and inside panel), it also shows the character in costume that is used in RnB music videos, It links with the magazine advert and the video and it puts across the artists star persona.

• My magazine advert, like my dikipak, conforms with RnB music. It shows the stars persona and sells them, it has a costume of that suitable to the genre, It matches with the digipak and video and it gives all information needed. It does however break the conventional with the text, in which we have had negative feedback and was a mistake.
