Christmas is on its way here and I cannot wait! I must admit I am totally one of those people that start decorating for Christmas before it

is even Thanksgiving. I am hoping that there is snow here in Michigan when we pick up our Christmas tree this year. If youve been

following me for a while you might remember my Christmas Tree Engagement sessionphotographed by my now close

friendLeah Mullett. We waited and waited for snow and it never came so we went with out it! opefully we will have some

snowflakes coming our way so I can have the snowy photos that Ive been craving.

I was in "rand #apids last weekend meeting with a lovely bride to be and since I was in town I stopped by t$ma%% to see what treasures

I could find. I came across some ornaments that were made out of some sort of wood that I loved. I took a photo of them & decided to

make my own bigger & more sparkly version.

My Christmas inspiration lately has come from the new lookbook by Ruche.It is filled with gorgeous winter layering ideas & lots of

Start by finding your plates or bowls to trace around. The diameter of my large salad bowl is34cm (13.5 inches), and the smaller one is 1cm (!.5 inches). "f your circles are muchlarger or smaller you will ha#e to ad$ust the si%e of your lea#es accordingly. The diameter ofmy finished wreath is 4cm 1&.5 inches), which is a great si%e to hang on the door.

1. 'lace the large bowl upside down on the cardboard and trace around it.

2. 'lace the small bowl upside down in the centre of the circle you#e $ust drawn and tracearound it.3. ut around the outside of the largest circle. Then cut across your circle, through thecentre until you reach the far edge of the small circle. *e+t cut across the line you $ust cut so

you now ha#e a in the centre of your circle. This $ust ma-es it easier to cut the small circleout. ut out the small circle so you end up with a donut shape. oin the open ends of thedonut bac- together with stic-y tape. (of course if you ha#e a craft -nife and cutting mat

you could $ust cut around the two circles)4. /raw a leaf shape about 1.5 cm (5 inches) long on a piece of paper, and cut it out to useas a template. 0ecause the tops and bottom of my lea#es were different shapes " cut thepoint off the bottom of the leaf so could easily see which end was the one to attach to thecardboard. " used &4 lea#es in total, of which 1& were white. The number of lea#es you need

will #ary slightly depending on how much you o#erlap your lea#es.

5. oll the bottom edges of the leaf together so they o#erlap and the sides curl up.6. Staple the rolled leaf to the bottom, $ust off centre, of the wreath base so the open end ofthe leaf is pointing out and down.7 & 8. ontinue rolling each leaf as you go, stapling them in position so they o#erlap thepre#ious leaf. They need to o#erlap and be placed close to each other so the cardboard baseand the staples arent #isible. The lea#es should be positioned so that they follow the cur#eof the wreath base. The placing is fairly random, the lea#es arent in rows. "f you are using

an accent paper (li-e my white one) place one for e#ery 4 2& of the main colour lea#es. a-ethe colour placement random too.

oo-ing at the bac- of the wreath you can see that the staples attach the lea#es to the centerof the cardboard ring, and the lea#es fan outwards.

9. & 10. ontinue stapling the lea#es in place. " found it useful to stop often and hold thewreath at arms length so " could see the o#erall shape that was being formed. a-e sure thetips of your lea#es follow the cur#e of the wreath base.

hen you ha#e reached half way stop and go bac- to your original starting point. *ow startagain from this point, facing your lea#es the other way and going in the opposite directionaround the wreath. a-e sure that you o#erlap the lea#es at the starting point, so there areno gaps. "f this seems a bit too tric-y you can always $ust continue on as you were all the

way around the circle so all your lea#es will be facing the same way. omplete the circle oflea#es.

11. & 12. Tie a half bow in your ribbon so there is a small loop and one short and one longend. Thread the long end behind in the lea#es in the top centre of the wreath. Staple theribbon to the wreath.The wreath is so light that it can easily be hung with 0lu2Tac. " $ust put a blob each at thetop and the bottom of the wreath and one on the top of the ribbon.

9 four s8uares of paper for the lid and four for the base

9 washi tape (any tape is fine, but washi is more forgi#ing if you ma-e a mista-e because itseasily remo#ed and repositioned)

Thats the bo+ lid made.

To ma-e the base start by stic-ing the four pieces of paper together with tape and then trimabout 3mm (one eighth of an inch) off each side of the s8uare. Then follow the same stepsto ma-e the base, which will fit neatly inside the lid.

The paper corners will sit neatly in the base and lid without needing to be secured, but youcan add a bit of fun there with a stic-er.

1.Cut your paper in half lengthwise, then fold into an accordion. I started by folding the paper in

half, then half again, so that there is an even number of pleats created.

2.Cut off one pleat to use as a template.

3.Squash the rest of the accordion together and staple in the center.

4.Draw your snowflake pattern on the template you created, and cut it out.

5.Trace the design on the stapled paper and slowly cut out your design.

Tip: Do not get too fancy with the design, unless you have monster hands or really sharp scissors,

as youll be cutting through several layers of paper.

6.Once you have the design cut out, carefully separate the pleats of the medallion, and tape the

separate ends together.

You now have your own 3D medallion snowflake!
