Fox Valley Humane Association’s Pet Food Pantry
About a year and a half ago the FVHA staff began tonotice that pets were being surrendered to the shelterdue to economic reasons. Animals that neededextensive surgeries and families that simply couldn’tafford to have the necessary veterinary work done fortheir pet were being forced to bring them to theFVHA. www.foxvalleypets.org “Economy takes toll onanimals” Post Crescent story, pictures and video.
Six months later the need escalated and ownerswere bringing animals to us because they could nolonger afford to feed them. The economy was gettingworse and the pets were really feeling the pinch.Families talked to us about not being able to make itthrough the week and having no money left to buydog food. The FVHA staff began asking owners ifthey received assistance witha bag or two of pet foodcould they keeptheir pet and nothave to surren-der them totheFVHA.Manytimes theanswer wasyes and thatfamily left theshelter with a happy dog and enough food to make itthrough to pay day.
Due to the success of this program the FVHA hascontinued providing food through our Pet FoodPantry. We have partnered with the Red Cross andSalvation Army and continue to receive requests fromvalley residents as well. The need is great and weare always looking for ways to fill the shelves andkeep the pets of the valley fed. There were concernsthat this generosity might be taken advantage of andwhile this may have happened on occasion, the FoxValley Humane Association has been left with fewersurrendered pets and many many more happy end-ings!
The FVHA is excited to announce an ongoing part-nership to feed hungry pets with our friends at theWinnegamie Dog Club. Club members will be donat-
ing food at the club and collecting donations at thedog shows. The FVHA is very grateful to the club fortheir support and generous ongoing contributions. Thanks to the Fox Valley Humane Association andWinnegamie Dog Club no pet will go hungry in thevalley!
You can help feed a hungry pet by donating some ofthe following:
Purina or Iams Dog or Cat foodCanned Adult Dog food in smaller cansPurina Puppy ChowSoft and Hard Dog Treats and RawhidesPurina Kitten ChowCanned Kitten foodCash donations to purchase food
Donations may be brought to the FVHA at N115 TwoMile Road, Appleton 54914 and are all taxdeductible. The FVHA will provide you with an in-
kind receipt that can be used onyour taxes and of coursereceive our gratitude! Orcontact the Fox ValleyHumane Association at(920) 733-1717 orwww.foxvalleypets.org
