Miss McCurdy’s Classroom Newsletter On Tuesday, students will be starting Story 11: “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type.” They will be learning how to make conclusions and review the author’s word choice. In Spelling, students will be spelling words with base words and endings –s, and –es. In Grammar, students will be learning how to identify and write compound sentences. Spelling Words: hens, eggs, ducks, bikes, boxes, wishes, dresses, names, bells, stamps, dishes, grapes, jets, frogs, stitches, and fences Vocabulary Words: understand, gathered, impatient, impossible, believe, problem, demand, furious High-Frequency Words: another, far, grow, hard, heard, kind, light, more, some, and to Spelling Test: Tuesday, January 9 th Reading Test—Wednesday, January 10 th Language Arts Fawn Primary Center Week of January 1 st -5 th , 2018 We will be continuing on with the “Weighing and Balancing” unit. Students will discuss/review the relationship between weighing and balancing. In Lesson 11, students will be graphing the weights of the objects in Lesson 10. They will make bar graphs showing their data. Lastly, students will read how animals are weighed at the zoo. Math HAPPY NEW YEAR!! We will be continuing on with Chapter 4. Students will be learning how to regroup in addition. This lesson will be spread across over 2 days. On Thursday, students will be learning how to drawing quick pictures and using recording 2-digit addition using the standard algorithm. On Friday, students will be completing a “Mad Minute” for addition and participating in math centers to review previously taught skills. SCIENCE

Upcoming Events

In Language Arts, students took the Reading Test on Story 10. Check their folders for their results.

In Math, students learned how to make an addend of ten to help solve an addition problem. Also, they learned how to break apart addends to add tens and ones.

In Science, students continued to use the equal-arm balance to weigh items and put them in serial order.
