ALGAE- the simplest plantsBecause they live in water and water does many things for algae:

lack an internal system of tubes to move water & materials from one part of the plant to the other

lack protection from drying out lack external support

There is only one major problem with living under water:SUNLIGHT!

Water absorbs red and violet wavelengths which is what chlorophyll a uses. Therefore most algae contain other forms of chlorophyll in addition to chlorophyll a.Algae are classified by the pigments they contain:

Green Algae Brown Algae Red AlgaePhylumChlorophyta Phaeophyta RhodophytaPigmentChlorophyll a

Sargasso sea- sargasso is a word from Portugese meaning air bubble. The Portugese were the first to discover an area of the Atlantic where there are large masses of Sargassum sea weed. It is the only sea without land boarders. It is surrounded by ocean currents. Ships famously get trapped in the duldrums in this area. The water is known for being deep blue and clear. Also it is where American and European river eels hatch.
