BREAKING NEWS on the Website

AGAG TURNS US AGOG WITH DISBELIEF 23rd September

The story of how Agag sold a green agenda “so far removed from reality it really does beggar belief” begins with his persuasive letter to Cllr. Govindia. He promoted “green” technology, yet ended up with the disruption of a “beautiful Grade II* listed Victorian park for 3 1/2 weeks at the height of summer”. Read the whole of this article, which also includes an analysis of and corrections to the recent Heritage Impact Assessment Report.

And if that is not enough, in that same article, read how and why Miami withdrew from this year’s ePrix, a fact which Agag never mentions,

And lastly, a new alliance has emerged promoting cleaner air. It seems that FE and CleanSpace have “joined hands to tackle air pollution due to transportation.” This seems odd in view of the pollution caused by transportation

during June’s FE event in the Park, but it is, of course, all good publicity for Agag.

Given that the Council may well use these so-called “green credentials” as a lever on the OSC, you should read part of a statement by Paul Ekins, which also fits in very nicely with the Miami affair:

“In fact one does not have to dig very deep to discover that the supposed concern of Formula E for the environment, and of Wandsworth Borough Council that permitted the wholly inappropriate use of Battersea Park for this event, is hitched to a much greater concern of theirs - making money. Formula E is a business and is driven by business motives. Alejandro Agag, its Chief Executive, has no previous record of environmental activism.. He is just using the low emissions of electric vehicles as a marketing device for his business, while showing no respect at all for the local environments or people in which his company's events take place. In Miami, his firm tarmacked over a green space near the shore, and then simply walked away from the place when local people objected (see http://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/formula-e-wont-return-to-miami-where-environmentalists-clashed-with-race-7759532), with no apparent plans to restore the site to its previous state. Is this the fate that Battersea Park can expect?”

The full statement is now on the website. Feel free to use any of the information above in any of your arguments when writing or speaking to councillors. Which brings me to:

At present it is difficult to find out which councillor will be attending and when, but whoever it is, they will always be pleased to see you and listen to your concerns about FE.

Below is a link to a table to help you plan your Saturdays: http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/info/200438/councillors/441/find_a_councillor/2

Why not go with a friend. Rehearse what you are going to say, and your rebuttals. No need to feel nervous. Just remember:

OVERVIEW AND SCRUTINY COMMITTEE

The Council is still dithering over its reports and a new date for a hearing. This gives you time to remind the OSC Councillors of what you said when you last wrote. Quite a few of them seem to have no idea of the seriousness of the deadline situation – or maybe they do.

It would also do no harm at all to write to Paul McCue, Cllr. Cook, Cllr. Govindia, and anyone else you feel particularly affectionate towards, to ask them when the date of the OSC meeting will be.

An opposition councillor said that the week of 4-7 October is unlikely to see the new meeting, since many of the senior councillors may well be at the Tory Party Conference. We hope that on this occasion Cllr. Cook will be enjoying something

stronger than a diet coke or a coffee. (His answer to the question as to what hospitality he enjoyed on his two visits to the FE Racing in the Park).

SPONSORS

Write to their sponsors. A list of sponsors and the email addresses, where possible, of their CEOs is shown below. It will also shortly appear on the website. Since they do not give out funding for bad publicity, they will not wish their products to be linked with the negative happenings in the Park. We have been told that at least one major sponsor is feeling slightly rattled.

Think about it. In addition to Miami’s withdrawal, with bad environmental publicity, of the 10 remaining venues on the FE website, Beijing had to be programmed a week later while Battersea now clashes with F1.

An 11th contender, Lugano, is still trying to raise the necessary € 10 million. Agag has generously extended this monetary deadline by two months.

ELECTRIC CARS

Electric cars have been around for well over a century. The first rechargeable electric battery appeared in 1859 (round about the time Battersea Park was founded). The first cars appeared in the 1880s and were fairly popular. The only thing that is unusual today, apart from the extensive battery and zero-emissions research essential if we are to make electric cars the way forward in the race to clean up our air, is the fact that for the past year they have been part of the car racing world. Wandsworth may believe it is at the centre of cutting-edge technology; all it has done by allowing FE into the Park is to give FE racing a dirty name because of what happened to the Park and its users. They would do better to replace their fleet with electric cars, and install charging points all over the Borough. Now that, Mr. Agag, would have been a much better place for your money – that is – if you really are keen about the environment.
