Principal Article
It is hard to believe Christmas is only a little over a week away. This year is going too fast!
Next week will be a short but busy week. If you have a K4-4th grader, you have probably heard some of
the songs from their Christmas programs. The students are working hard to prepare this event for you. I hope all of you are able to join us for our Christmas programs.
1st – 4th, Tuesday, December 20th at 1:00pm and 6:30pm K4 and K5, Wednesday, December 21st at 1:30pm
Our 4th Grade will have their annual Candy Cane Lane. This will be on Wednesday, December 21st from
2:00-2:45pm. This is a time for people to come and walk through and see their own creations (gingerbread houses). All donations will go to the MACC fund.
As we have seen with the weather this week, winter is officially here. Please double check to be sure your child is dressed for the weather. If the temperature and the wind chill are above 0, we will be outside for
recess. The building can be a bit chilly as well. It is a good idea for children to have a uniform sweatshirt or sweater in the classroom.
Please join us for Mass on Thursday, December 22nd at 8:15am. We will dismiss for Christmas break at 11:30am on Thursday, December 22nd.
Pokémon Cards Effective immediately children will no longer be allowed to bring Pokémon cards to school or MEC. Aside
from the fact that they could get lost or damaged, they have also become a distraction to our students. If you have any questions, please contact the school office at 414-321-0894.
Cold Weather
Winter in Wisconsin has officially arrived!! Please make sure your children are dressed for the weather with a warm coat, snow pants, hats, gloves, and boots. All girls from K4-8th Grade need to have
their legs covered at recess!

MEC

Art Class Help
The Art Room is in need of yogurt cups with lids (any size). Thank You!
4th Grade Candy Cane Lane
Each year 4th Grade creates a version of the West Allis Candy Cane Lane during the season of Advent.
Come and tour our graham cracker houses, landscaped in frosting and candy galore on Wednesday,
December 21, 2016 from 2:00pm–2:45pm in the 4th grade classrooms. As visitors enjoy our
creations, they are invited to donate money to the West Allis Candy Cane Lane. All money will be donated
to Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc. (The MACC Fund) which is dedicated to funding
childhood cancer and related blood disorder research.
Middle School Parents
Thank you to all of the Middle School Parents who either donated food items or chaperoned at the dance
held on November 18th! It was a fun night for all of the students and the parents as well. Please mark
your calendars for the second Middle School Dance on Friday, April 28th! There will be more
volunteering opportunities, so if you need to fill up your volunteer hours this is a good event to do just
that!
Catholic Schools Week Liturgies
We need many volunteers to help the weekend of January 28-29, 2017. Please see the flyer in this week’s mailer for opportunities to help during the weekend Masses. We would like all of the forms
returned by next Wednesday, December 21st so that we can plan over Christmas break.
Our Catholic Schools Week Liturgies Committee Thanks You!

Ski Club
We will be holding Ski Club this Friday, December 16th at Alpine Valley. The conditions should be great with the fresh snow. We also anticipate more light snow coming this Friday. Please let us know if you will
be attending and the approximate number of lift tickets and rentals you will need.
The signup sheet is outside of Ms. Benioff’s classroom.
Parking Lot Reminders
Parents/Guardians, it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure our parking lot is safe.
Always park so you can pull forward to leave – never back up your vehicle in the parking lot.
Walk within the yellow pathway in the middle of the lot – never drive through the middle of the
lot.
The lot can get backed up – please be patient – we have 260 students leaving at the same time.
Watch your speed – please drive cautiously – there are small children everywhere.
If you enter via Oklahoma Avenue – you should exit via Oklahoma Avenue.
If you enter via Euclid – you should exit via Beloit Road.
Drop off all children in the parking lot – Beloit Road should not be used for drop off.
Winter Weather It may seem like a long way off, but we need to be aware of winter weather.
Please double check for uniform sweatshirts and sweaters. The school can be drafty in areas and
we want the students to be comfortable.
If there is inclement weather, St. Matthias Parish School will close if Milwaukee Public Schools
close. Please watch the news/radio stations for that information. Please do not call the school or
teachers at home. Please be aware that the St. Matthias Parish may close outside of Milwaukee Public Schools. The
parish has many parishioners who should not be out during inclement weather. They will close if
they feel it best serves their clientele.
St. Thomas More High School Theater Department
Our Theater Department is seeking 25-30 young performers, age 9-13 for their spring production of
"Children of Eden". Auditions will be held January 10-11 from 5:00-8:00. Performers should prepare 32-
40 bars of a musical theater song of their choice. Please make sure music has piano accompaniment (no
a cappella auditions). Performances are March 3-5 and 10-12. If you have any questions, please email St.
Thomas More Theater Director Matt Zembrowski at [email protected].

Fundraiser Updates from Home & School
Current Fundraisers
Our fundraising season is in full swing. In the past week your child should have brought home
information on the Marcus Ticket fundraiser and the annual Calendar Raffle. The Marcus Ticket fundraiser
is in place of Club’s Choice from last year, and the tickets will arrive before Christmas, so gift cards would
make a great gift. I know a few of our family members will be receiving them (and unknowingly helping
St. Matthias)! Also, the Calendar Raffle is back again, and these are also great gift choices for your
friends and family. Please keep these two fundraisers in the front of your mind these next few weeks to
help raise funds for the school.
January 5th - Parental Input Needed
Please mark your calendars to join us Thursday, January 5th at 6:30pm. Home & School will be re-
evaluating its fundraisers and fundraiser calendar for the 2017-2018 school year and would like all the
parental input and help we can get! At the Home & School meeting on January 5th, Home & School will
be reviewing several new fundraisers as well as re-evaluating timing of each fundraisers to ensure we are
able to have the most successful year to help support our school, students, and teachers.
We invite all parents to join us to help improve our fundraisers. Want to see a new fundraiser? Heard of a
great idea another school has done? We need your input!
School Directory A limited number of St. Matthias School Photo/Phone Directories are available in the School Office. Free
will donations are appreciated.
