*** This Christmas Season a parish family donated $5,000 to assist families in need. Another parishioner provided a family with presents, dinner and all the trimmings. We

assisted 7 families, 3 families received $500 and 4 families received $300 gift cards to Wal-Mart. We gave 7 tubs of food to families in need, which included everything the family needed for a Christmas dinner plus a few extra

items. Altar and Rosary Society donated a $500 gift card for a family. Merry Widows gave 7 -$50 gift cards which were handed out the week of Christmas to those who asked for

assistance. The Jacksonville Care Channel sends St. Jude’s Parish a

huge “Thank you. For the generous Thanksgiving food and cash donations as well as for our ongoing monthly support

of their care for the needy in our community. Thanks be to God for all your generosity. Without YOU

this would not have been possible.

2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

"What are you looking for?" When Jesus asked the two

disciples this question, they didn't give an answer. Instead, they

asked another question: "Where are you staying?" Obviously

these men were interested in learning more about Jesus. They

wanted to accompany him and be in his presence. They

decided to spend the whole day with him. But they were not

quite ready to reveal what they were really looking for.

Remember that at the time, these men were disciples of John

the Baptist. They had heard John announce the coming of the

Christ, but they didn't know yet who he was. John's followers

were certainly looking for something: the Messiah. Most likely,

these men were interested in seeing for themselves whether or

not this Jesus was the one they had been waiting for.

Apparently, he was. Andrew was convinced by that daylong

encounter with Jesus. In the verse that follows today's Gospel,

we learn that "He first found his own brother Simon and told

him, 'We have found the Messiah'" (Jn 1:41). What a joy this

must have been for Andrew! He found what he was looking for.

Indeed, the joy was so great that he couldn't wait to share the

good news.

When we, like Andrew, take time to "spend the day" with

Jesus, getting to know who he really is through our daily prayer,

then the happiness we experience will naturally overflow to

others. The process may begin with questions about who Jesus

is; that's only natural. But once we find what we are looking for,

we can do what Andrew did by sharing the joy of the discovery

with our own brothers, sisters, neighbors, and friends right

YOU DID IT FOR ME In the Central African Republic and South Sudan, people

live through farming. Most of their food comes from what they can grow, and the crops which are not eaten are sold

to bring income. But the recent violece in these African nations has prevented farmers from planting this year. In the face of a possible famine, CRS is working to prepare

families for the difficult times ahead.

*** St. Joseph Center of Arkansas presents a

Benefit Concert to help restroe the former St. Joseph Orphanage in North

Little Rock. Armusica will perform a wonderful evening of beautiful music

featuring pianist, Julie Cheek and principal members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

The concert will be held on Wednesday, January 15 at UALR Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall and will begin at 7:30

pm. Works will include a piano/violin sonata, harp, and oboe quartet. There is no admission fee but donations will be accepted. A special gourmet dinner and private concert

has been donated by Dana and Juli (Cheek) Walker for auction. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to dine in their beautiful home and enjoy a private concert by Julie

performed on a Fazioli grand piano. An opportunity to bed on the dinner will be available during a reception that will

January 24 and 25, 2015: The annual Black and Indian Mission Collection is the first national collection,

authorized by the U.S. bishops in 1884. New Sunday, our parish will take up the annual Collection for Black and

Indian Missions. Our financial contribution helps support Catholic American Indian communities on

reservations, in rural areas and inner cities. The collection also supports African American schools and

evangelization programs, particularly in the south. With open hearts let us unite ourselves with the love of Christ

Post-Abortion Support Group: Do you feel alone, hurting or unforgiven from a past abortion? The Respect Life Office, through Project Rachel, is starting a support group, beginning the third week in February. The

spiritual journey lasts 11 weeks, with small groups of 6-8. Groups will be formed in Little Rock, Rogers/Springdale and Hot Springs areas. All names and

Subiaco Academy! — A Catholic,

Benedictine boarding and day school for boys in grades 7-12 located just east of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Subiaco Academy is

offering Shadow Days for interested students and their

parents to visit and explore the Academy’s junior and senior

high college prep program. Shadow Days are scheduled for Friday, February 6, March 13 and April 10, 2015, and open

to boys in grades 6-10. Activities include campus tours, shadowing students, and parent meetings with staff.

Students may spend the night before in a dorm for more of the Subiaco Experience and overnight accommodations are
