Direct School Admission (DSA)
Introduction
Introduced in 2004 as part of MOE's move towards creating more flexibility and options for students
Provides students an opportunity to demonstrate a more diverse range of achievements and talents in seeking admission to a secondary school
Allows participating schools to select some P6 students for admission to Secondary 1 based on their achievements and talents before the PSLE results are released
DSA Exercise is for all specialised schools, independent schools, autonomous schools and schools with approved niche programmes
Participating secondary schools are able to select a certain percentage of their students for admission outside of the centralised sec one posting exercise
They decide their own admission criteria
Participating Schools
Specialised Schools
Schools offering an Integrated Programme (IP Schools)
Independent Schools (IS)
Autonomous Schools (AS)
Schools with Niche Programmes approved by MOE (Niche Schools) – 5%;
Stages of the DSA-Sec Exercise
Selection Stage Jun – End Aug

DSA Information Sheet
Considerations :
1) Know your child :
-Does she want to continue in that CCA in the secondary school?
-Manage her expectations, stress level and morale in applying for DSA
2) Understand the school
- Culture, vision, mission and values
-CCAs / Special Programmes
-Match between the school’s strengths / niche and your child’s talents
Do note
• P6 students have a choice whether or not to participate in the DSA-Sec. If they choose not to participate in the DSA-Sec, they will participate in the Secondary One Posting Exercise after the release of the PSLE results.
• Students who opt for a school under DSA-Sec must achieve PSLE results that would enable them to be eligible for admission to the course being offered by their opted DSA-Sec schools.
• Applicants admitted to a school through DSA-Sec will not be allowed to participate in the annual Secondary One Posting Exercise. They will also not be allowed to appeal to other secondary
schools
• Applicants who are admitted to the secondary schools because of their CCA achievements will be obliged to continue in that CCA

FACTORS TO CONSIDER IN CHOOSING THE 6 SCHOOLS
Learning … Creativity … Graciousness … Responsibility … Integrity
1) Choose schools that are comparable to your child’s academic ability
Reference
- Child’s academic performance in school - Secondary schools’ cut-off scores in previous year
• Include a range of schools in the selection
1st - 2nd choices – cut-off above her score
(around 5 pts)
3rd – 4th choices - cut-off within her score
5th – 6th choices – cut-off below her score
(5 – 10 pts below)
Learning … Creativity … Graciousness … Responsibility … Integrity
• Note the cut-off points will change depending on demand for places & vacancies
• If your child’s PSLE T-score is near the school’s 2014 cut-off, her chance in being admitted to the school is slimmer
Learning … Creativity … Graciousness … Responsibility … Integrity
2) Child’s personality / character 3) Distance 4) School programmes & school culture 5) Affiliated schools
