Parsha Points by Mayrav Bader (10 years old, 5th grade) Brought to you by the ASBI Education Committee
In this week’s parsha, we learn a few things: One thing is that Yitro, Moses’s father-in-law, reunites with Moses after hearing about the
miracles. Another thing is that Moses and the Jews leave Egypt and they make camp at the base of
Mount Sinai. G-d talks to Moses and says you cannot pray to other gods. You cannot make sacrifices except to Me. Above all, you must not make gods of silver and gods of gold to pray to. These are part of the Ten Commandments.
Before that, Yitro gives advice to Moses. He says that what Moses does is not good and he will be worn out. It is too big for him to handle alone. Yitro says to listen to advice; he will advise him and he can help him. That way he will be able to speak to G-d.
You may be thinking, "What is he doing?" Moses is asked for help for problems and to consult G-d about some difficult problems. That is this week’s parsha.
