Next weekend my theatre group will present the play, Inherit the Wind, at Incarnate Word Academy (near UMSL) on Friday and Saturday evening, March 20 and 21, at 7:30pm; and Sunday, March 22, at 2:00pm. For ticket information contact Ann Madden at (314) 846-1060 or [email protected] Come enjoy the show; we love our audience! I want to highlight the upcoming White House Retreat on the front of this bulle-tin. I'm joining the men of the parish for this retreat. Why don't you join us as well? I recently read an inspiring letter in the Post submitted by a couple who attended an All School Mass at Holy Spirit Parish in Maryland Heights. I'm sure it could apply to any Catholic Elementary School, but I know it certainly is descriptive of our SMMA Grade School. I share some of it... "We were so impressed by the demeanor of the children who were at the Mass as a group. In trying to understand why we were pleased by what we saw, we discussed the possible reasons. Was it their unques-tioned piety, innocence and fervor? Yes, it was these things and more. Was it the respect they showed their priest, teachers and prin-cipal? Yes, but more! Was it their religious conviction, beautiful singing voices led by their peers, and strong reading voices? It was all of these things and more. We believe it was a clear illustration of the value of a parochial school education. No banners or slogans plastered the church walls reminding young people and citizens of the purpose of education. Pride, civility, discipline, tolerance, scholarship and respect for their peers and older adults were intrusive; these qualities emanated throughout the morning Mass exemplifying the value of a solid educa-tion rooted in faith. We were so proud of these school children! It made our day!" Thank you, Lord, for our SMMA Grade School, one of our parish's greatest blessings and treasures! God bless you! [email protected]

EARLY BULLETIN DEADLINES!

Our bulletin printer has given us early deadlines for the Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday bulletins.

Because of that all bulletin articles you wish to appear in the March 29th (Palm Sunday) bulletin must be submitted to the parish office by Monday, March 16th.

Articles for the April 5th (Easter Sunday) bulletin must be submitted by Tuesday, March 24th.

Thank you very much for your cooperation in helping us meet our deadlines.

MAN UP!

Man up? How do I do that, pump iron? Not exactly. After Christ, St. Joseph provides the best example of what it means to ‘man up’.

“Joseph … recognized that struggle and endeavor have their place in God’s plan as an aid to progress and development and that it is through trials manfully borne that man’s soul grows in force and virtue… The true Christian is the one who endeavors to escape not the trials of the world but the contagion of the world.”

Edward Leen, In the Likeness of Christ, commenting on the prompt action of Joseph to protect Mary & Jesus from the evil of Herod.

Thursday, March 19 is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, a great day to attend Mass for / with the men in your life.

ADORATION INVITATION: Wives, kids: surprise your “St. Joseph” by giving him the gift of an hour of prayer. Prayer cards are available in the chapel.

Current “PERMANENT” OPENINGS Friday 4-5pm

Please contact one of the chapel administrators with any questions:

Jane Conder (359-2459, [email protected])

Jamie Schwarz (221-6514, [email protected])

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL PRAYER INTENTION? Adorers would like to pray for you! Simply write up your prayer request and drop it in the basket in the Adoration Chapel. An adorer will pray for your in-tention during his/her Holy Hour.

MASS MOB COMES TO ST. LOUIS Have you ever been part of a Mass Mob? Mass Mobs are a trend which started in Buffalo, Detroit and Cleveland to accomplish three goals:

To fill historic urban churches for a special Mass

To unite communities by wor-shipping together in these sometimes poorly attended churches

To visit beautiful local churches you normally would not be attending

St. Louis Mass Mob's first offering is being held on Sunday, April 12, 9:30am at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3519 N. 14th Street, St. Louis, MO 63107. It is right off of I-70/I-44.

The celebrant will be the Most Reverend Archbishop Carlson.

DYNAMIC CATHOLIC,

ALIVE!

THE ELEMENTS OF CONFESSION

In Confession, there are 4 essential elements for the penitent: 1. Examination of Con-

science (careful reflec-tion on our sins),

2. Contrition (interior re-pentance),

3. Confession (telling one’s sin to the priest, and

4. Satisfaction (carrying out our penance).

There are many great guides to confession available. Don’t worry if you can’t remember all of the responses. Priests are always willing to help you make a good confession. Do you know the difference be-tween perfect and imperfect contrition?

DIVINE MERCY THE SPARK THAT IS SETTING THE WORLD AFLAME! During a dedication Mass in the shrine of divine Mercy in Kra-kow, August 17, 2002, Pope John Paul II announced: “Today, therefore, in this shrine, I wish solemnly to entrust the world to Divine Mercy.” The Divine Mercy devotion, though humble in origin, offers nothing less than the promise of salvation and peace to all man-kind. Efforts on many different fronts are furthering the hope that Catholics everywhere will soon know of the extraordinary graces promised by Our Lord to those who follow his simple call to mercy and trust.

THE DIVINE MERCY NOVENA On Good Friday 1937, Jesus dictated the intentions for a Novena that He wanted Saint Faustina to say before the Feast of Mercy. By means of a special prayer, she was to bring to His Heart a different group of souls each day: “I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the fountain of My Mercy.” (Diary,1209)

THE SACRAMENTS OF MERCY The Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist are special fountains of mercy which should be received frequently with great trust and love. (Diary, 914, 1602) To emphasize the importance of these two great “miracles of mercy,” Our Lord made their reception a condition for obtaining His promise for the Feast of Mercy: “The soul that will go to confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.” (Diary, 699) It is important to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Lent.

WORKS OF MERCY God expects us to let His mercy flow through us to others. His words to Saint Faustina are unmistakably clear: “I demand from you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors al-ways and everywhere.” (Diary, 742) Divine Mercy Sunday is April 12th! Services will be held from 2:30 - 3:30pm
