MATCH REPORTS: First Team –

Toss: Wycombe House won the Toss and choose to bowl first

Old Actonians: 252-8 all out in 53 overs (Sohail 5-56)

Wycombe House: 252-7 (Dilesh 96)

Result: Wycombe House winning Draw – 4 points MOM: Dilesh Perera

Well where do we start...... Wycombe House won the toss and decided to stick Old Actonians in. After 10 overs the skipper might have been rethinking that decision as the seamers didn't get off to a good start! They were coming up against two opening batsmen you were bang in form and playing some proper cricket shots all round the ground with an electric outfield and the House were on the back foot early doors. Not a good day for our three seamers so we had to get the spin twins into the attack and we broke the opening stand of 125! Their number 3 & 4 were nothing compared to their opening bats and we got rid of them quite quickly but their middle order dug in and played their shots and it wasn't a good day for the House in the field on another very hot day there was some lazy fielding & concentration wasn't on point and the opposition ended up on 252-8 off 53 overs and Sohail picking up 5 wickets again & Mehboob 3! We came out to bat & Zahid Ahmed was in a positive frame of mind and looked like he was up for the run chase hitting a few boundaries with some lovely drives until he got bowled. Jalal fell LBW shortly after big

Mehboob came in and was in some great form with the bat playing a very sensible innings building a great partnership with the returning Dilesh Perera. They were both playing their strokes and rotating the strike playing it very cleverly until no....terrible moment they decided to run two on an over throw and Mehboob was run out! The boys on the balcony couldn't believe it and we were up against it from here on but Dilesh had other ideas...the young Sri Lankan decided to play such a brilliant innings taking all the responsibility and courage to bat like a demon with the help of Hanif, Tino & Sohail there was wickets falling but he kept battling! So it was down to the last over & we needed 7 off the last 6 balls and Dilesh facing the first two balls he hits it straight to cover, then the third ball hits a boundary, great shot, 4th ball Yorker, dot ball, 5th ball he hits it they run two and can you believe it the Umpire calls "one short"????, so it comes down to the 6th ball and and we need two to win and Dilesh hits it straight to mid on they go for two and unfortunately gets run out and the scores level and ends on a quite brilliant 96. This was absolutely fantastic innings from Dilesh after 4 weeks out with a tendon injury in his hand & was not fully fit and was battling through the pain to do that for his team. So we got the winning draw of 4 points due to a faster run rate!

Dilesh scored a quite brilliant 96 for us and was only one run away from getting us all 10 points!

Sun tan lotion is always important!!!!

Second Team –

Toss: South Hampstead won the toss

South Hampstead: 267-6, 55 overs (Bilal capt – 5-72)

Wycombe House: 224-7, 45 overs (Bilal capt – 91) Result: Winning Draw – 4 points After losing the toss South Hampstead decided to bat first on what seemed to be a nice flat deck to bat on. Naved and Bilal opened the bowling with a good start to show that spin was the best way to start off the bowling. With it being uneasy to face spin Bilal bagged a few wickets early on in his spell with 2 wicket maidens and almost almost claimed a Hatrick. Spin proved to be the best way to attack. Bilal getting 3 wickets at 55 runs on the board early on had hopes of making it a good contest against the away side. Other bowlers unfortunately didn't get much of a chance to capitalise on their strengths as partnerships were being made. With a batsman that came in at 4 confident on taking on the Wycombe House bowling attack, which paid off for the opposition with him, their top scorer scoring 167 not out. Naved took a wicket and Bilal later took another two wickets claiming his fiver. With South Hampstead not convinced on batting 50 overs a side, decided to bat their full allowance of 55, reducing the second innings to 45 overs to chase a total of 267. Bilal M Ch and Bilal H Ch opened the batting by putting up a great opening partnership helping House come to a stable and strong foundation. Bilal M Ch went on to get his fifty in a classy innings finally falling 9 runs short of his ton in an attempt to get closer and closer to the winning post. With runs needed, Zahid Biseem came in and "tonked" a quick and positive 31 helping us get closer to the target needed. Batsman coming in to bat, went in with the intent to come back with the 10 points, but it wasn't meant to be as outstanding overs and spinners bowling on a spinning wicket made it hard for our batsman to find runs at the end.

Third Team – WHCC 3s v/s Southgate 3s Venue: Southgate CC Toss: WHCC won the toss and chose to field first Southgate: 97 all out in 43.4 Overs WHCC: 98-6 in 26.4 overs Result: WHCC 3s Won by 4 wickets (10 points) Man of the Match: Janaka Report: After the previous weeks jubilation on getting to the top of the league, the WHCC 3rd XI boys travelled to the North of London to play their away fixture against a very strong (ex top of the table) Southgate CC. A Win would keep the WHCC 3s on top and that was enough motivation for the boys to give their 100% on the field of play. The toss was won by Vasi, and once again chose to bowl first (which has been his preferred choice throughout this season). Yet again, the opening duo of Yahya Khan and Vasi Sheikh proved to be too good for the Southgate top order and they were unable to get the bowl off the square for the first 10 overs. With the run rate just slightly over 1 run per over and the pressure building, theie batsmen decided to take the bowling on and in the process lost their wickets. With fantastic fielding from everyone, Yahya and Vasi both managed to pick up 2 wickets each. After 20 overs, Southgate were 35-4 and not going anywhere. Sachin came in first change to replace Yahya and struck yet again, while Vasi continued from the other end. Sachin finished his 6 over spell, and the returning back to fitness Dominic Thamby was brought in to bowl and he struck first ball with a caught and bowled taking a good low catch to his right. Southgate batsmen fell apart in this great spell of seam bowling and Dominic on his first league game of the season finished with 4 wickets in just 6 overs. Yahya finished the innings from the other end and Southgate were all out for 97. Dominic taking 4 wickets (6 overs), Yahya 3 (13.4 overs), Vasi 2 (18 overs) and Sachin (6 overs) getting 1 wicket. After teas, the openers Janaka and Ash walked in with full confidence to chase this low but tricky total. Ash Vyas fell playing a cut shot caught brilliantly at gully. Ibrahim was next to go caught at short mid wicket. In came Vasi at number 4 and after getting dropped first ball, despatched his 2nd delivery into the tree for a big six. Vasi looked in a hurry from the word go and despite giving a fair amount of chances, still continued to play over aggressively and scored, 2,6,4,1,4,6,4,2,4. His 33 came off less than 12 balls and the chase was given a massive lift. Adnan Haq came in after Vasi's dismissal and was adjudged LBW playing a sweep shot. Vasi took a gamble once again and sent in the beast Yahya at number 6. And the plan worked again with Yahya scoring 22 runs with some massive shots along the way. Yahya got out trying a shot too many but by then the job was almost done. Qasim went in to finish the innings which he duly did and scored the winning runs.

All this aggressive play by Vasi, Yahya & Co was only possible because of one man Janaka, who played around all the other batsmen with control, calm and patience and held one end together till the very end. His innings was all class, and exactly how an opening batsmen should anchor the innings. Well played Janaka and the entire team. Wycombe House 3rd XI stay at the top of the table. Bring on Old Actonians on the 02nd of August. Its revenge time!!!

Result: WHCC Win by 7 wkts TOSS: WHCC lost the toss Swans : 129 all out WHCC: 130-3 We went down to Thames Ditton. For this match in a nice sunny Saturday with a team packed full if potential. We lost the toss and was put in the field. Ash and Karan opened the bowling both bowling well but there was always a loose ball to be found from both ends to release the pressure. Then on came the spinners Hj and Hashim who continued the pattern of 5 dots 1 boundary. Until Hashim found his line and length to finish off a good spell of bowling with Both spinners finishing off well. Then came on Blake Cullen who bowled well picking up 4 wickets with some fantastic variations to keep the batsmen tied down and losing wickets. We finished off well leaving the Swans 129 all out. We came out to bat feeling confident we could chase the total Armann Toor and Vivek opening up. Armann started off the innings well with a few boundaries before Vivek fell cheaply. In came Jess was going nicely with Armann at the other end keeping the score moving. Then Jess attempting a Dil Scoop, scooped the ball in to his forehead and had to retire hurt. The score was a healthy 80 odd at this time. In comes skipper Sylvie to partner Armann at the crease and try to Shepherd the youngster to his 1st senior 50 bit he fell short on 48. Shame as it was a brilliant knock up till then. Sylvie continued with Blake who had a good knock and was 20 odd not out while sylvie departed back to the pavilion to let Jess (da scoop) to come in and hit the winning runs. Top players: Armann Toor, Blake Cullen, Harjeeven Gill, Hashim & Jess….

All of the above played well and if in need of an option can all be selected comfortable for the league sides. The whole team played well but against a limited opposition there are improvements to be made. Sunday 1

Stanmore Warriors vs WHCC Friendly Game Venue: Stanmore WHCC: Wycombe House 100 all out Stanmore: 101 - 7

So close yet so far….

The famous Sunday 2nd

were sent on another scenic drive around the M25, after using up all reserve petrol, The team turned up to the ground and were amazed by the view. The ground was overlooking by what seemed to be a beautiful manor house upon investigation the players were advised that wasn’t a manor house yet an old Mental institute and the ground we were playing on was the exercise area for the patients. Obviously hearing this all the players felt at home especially captain Zahid who could be seen running around screaming don’t leave the straight one!!!!. WHCC won the toss and decided to Bat first, the openers fell cheaply resistance was shown by AB, Maq Boom & Jessal. The star of the show with the bat had to be none other than MO-Gibbs Vasi who took the attack to the cleaners, hitting clean crisp boundaries for fun. Vasi was boosted with his fan club watching (Mehboob, Waqas, Sangakkara-Dilesh, Logan & McDonalds ambassador Bilal). As all good things must come to an end so did Vasi’s innings and Wycombe house were skittled out for 100. Karan and Ash opened the attack both being unsuccessful, changes had to be made. The captain brought himself on (only because he was given strict instructions by Alex to bowl!!!) and bowled tight lines picking up a wicket in the process. The real damage was done by Sunday’s 2

nd eleven version of spin twins Hashim and Jessal. Both bowled

beautifully to their field and troubled the batsmen. Both continuously bamboozled the batsmen who had no idea how to play them , one of Hashim’s many wickets was a Jaffa pitching on leg and hitting off stump upon Hashim fell onto his knees and praised the lord. The boy has worked hard and deserved it. The bowling was backed up by tidy work from behind the stumps by Bilal who showed he has another suit to his cricket. Bilal kept chirping away with his banter and kept spirits high. The opposition eventually got the runs for a loss of Seven wickets, it could have been a totally different results if the top 5 batsmen had scored.

Shot of the day: - Vasi’s Straight Six

Man of the match - Hashim for his tight bowling

Moment of the match - Vasi being swapped with fine leg (Sorry Vasi!!!)

Match report by Zahid Ahmed
