• Put on your coaching hat.• Take “I” out of your vocabulary.• Open questions: How, what, who,
when versus do you, are you, or can you.
• Listen, listen and listen some more.• Reflect 2x as often as you ask
questions.
Be Present
Set the Stage for Positivity
• Find a place that is conducive to conversation and connection.
• Put away distractions.
• Tools for being present. A minute of quiet meditation. Several deep breaths. A glass of water.
Have client info in front of you and look for a positive place to begin.
Be Present
Tune-in to how client is in the moment.
• On a scale of 1 – 10, what is your energy level right now?
• If you were a ____ (color, animal, season of the year, song, car, weather system), what would you be right now?

Why tune-in to how client is in the moment?
• Establishes rapport and trust and connects both the client and you to the energy she is bringing to the session.
• Allows you to meet her energy with appropriate energy of your own. Sets the tone for the conversation.
Be Positive
Open with a positive question.
• There are no neutral questions.
How was your week?
What was the best part of your week?
Be Positive
