THE RESURRECTION GOSPEL1 CORINTHIANS 15 15

• 3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

Page 9: WHAT DID THE DEATH & RESURRECTION OF CHRIST MEAN?

• 20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in his own turn: Christ, the first fruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

Page 10: WHAT DID THE DEATH & RESURRECTION OF CHRIST MEAN?

• 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

THE SEQUENCE IN 1 COR. 15In Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn:

• Christ, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

• Then, when He comes, those who belong to him:– The trumpet will sound– The dead (asleep) will be raised imperishable– Then we (the living) will be changed (The Rapture)

Page 12: WHAT DID THE DEATH & RESURRECTION OF CHRIST MEAN?

THE SEQUENCE IN 1 THES. 4In Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn:

13Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

Page 13: WHAT DID THE DEATH & RESURRECTION OF CHRIST MEAN?

THE SEQUENCE IN 1 THES. 4In Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn:

16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18Therefore encourage each other with these words.”

THE SEQUENCE IN 1 THES. 4In Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn:

1. God’s loud command2. The voice of the archangel will be heard3. The sound of God’s Trumpet4. Jesus will come down from heaven 5. The dead in Christ will rise (the first resurrection)

Rev. 20:4-6; 1 Co. 15:526. The living ones in Christ will be caught up

together in the clouds (1 Co. 15:52)7. All will meet the Lord in the air

Page 15: WHAT DID THE DEATH & RESURRECTION OF CHRIST MEAN?

THE SEQUENCE IN REVELATION 20In Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn:

4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Page 16: WHAT DID THE DEATH & RESURRECTION OF CHRIST MEAN?

THE SEQUENCE IN REVELATION 20In Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn:

5(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

Assurance of God’s Judgment

• His resurrection is assurance from God that Judgment is coming and we all must repent:

"Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead." - Acts 17:30-31
