What Have You Done With Your Past?By David Moore

In the society we life in today a person is so quickly judged by their past. God’s Word is so very clear about judgment of each other. I remind you of what God’s Word says about judgment, “Do not judge so that you will not be judged, for in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye.” Matt. 7:1-3 NASB When there has been true repentance and receiving Jesus as our Lord and Savior we have been forgiven from our past. Psalms 103:12 NASB says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far, has He (Jesus) removed our transgressions from us.” Our sins are remembered no more. Our past has been forever forgotten by our Lord. We see in John 8:1-11 where a woman who was caught in the very act of adultery by the Scribes and Pharisee’s was brought before Jesus in the center court of the city. Then the Scribes and Pharisee’s reminded Jesus of what was written in the Law of Moses in Leviticus 20:10 where anyone who was caught in the act of adultery was to be put to death. Then the Scribes and Pharisee’s asked Jesus what he said on this matter. They did this to test Jesus so that they may have the grounds to accuse Jesus. Jesus then stooped to the ground and began to write in the dirt. The Scribes and Pharisee’s continued to press Jesus for an answer to their question. Jesus then stood up and said to the Scribes and Pharisee’s “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her” John 8:6 NASB Jesus then at that time stooped back down to the ground and began to write in the dirt. When the Scribes and Pharisee’s had heard what Jesus had said they, beginning with the oldest, one by one, left the center court of the city, until it was just Jesus and the woman there. Jesus stood up and asked the woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you? John 8:10 NASB She replied to Jesus “No one Lord” John 8:11 NASB Jesus then said to the woman, “I do not condemn you either, Go, from now on sin no more” John 8:11 NASB. The woman at this point had two choices to make, to leave her sin behind and to sin no more. As you and I have repented and received Jesus as our Lord and Savior we too can make the same choices as this woman made. To leave our past behind us and to sin no more and to walk in the newness of life we have in Christ Jesus. Philippians. 3:13 says, “Forgetting what lies behind and looking forward to what lies ahead” NASB. What lies ahead of you? I will tell you what lies ahead of you. Victory in Jesus, His Love, His Grace, and His freedom, “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 NASB Satan will always attempt to keep reminding you of your past. He will use anyone and everyone to accomplish this task, but we have the victory in Christ Jesus.

We must always walk in what the Word of God says, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Romans 8:1 NASB. We no longer have to live in our past “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature, the old things (Our Past) passed away; behold, new things have come.” II Corinthians 5:17 NASB. Our future is eternal life in Christ Jesus. So I ask you this question, what have you done with your past? Do you still live in your past? Have you put your past to work for the Lord as a testimony of what you have been set free from and forgiven of to lead others to Jesus for salvation? I challenge you to do just that. When people who know about your past, try to remind you of that past, just look at them and say, I have been forgiven and set free by the blood of Jesus, and He remembers it no more. Then ask them if they would like to receive Jesus as their Savior, and then experience the same freedom that you walk in. If you are reading this and you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, please take the time right now to repent of your sins and ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life. If you will do this, you too have made the right choices and now you too can live in the victory and the love and the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
