  • Effective Revision

    • Planned – know what is to be completed in each revision session and why.

    • Relevant – don’t revise what you already know!

    • Active - do something, don’t just read

    • Chunked - revision over time is the most effective

    • Written – the exams are written, so practicing the writing is important

    • Revisited – checking what you have learnt more than once moves it into the long term memory

  • We should do tasks that challenge our memory harder so they stick more.

Good for memory Bad for memory

Quiz yourself. Quiz your friends. Write questions about topics to answer later. Re-write / summarise key points in a different way. Do practice questions. Make revision cards and test your self on them. Teach someone else. Create links between topics.

Read your notes. Re-read your notes. Copy your notes. Highlight your notes.

  • Revision Cards

    1. Each knowledge card is numbered and contains a title 2. The information in the card above describes the information required. 3. The back of each card contains a set of questions for the student to test themselves. 4. The best way to do this is read the information and then turn the card over read the

question then write down an answer in full sentences. Then turn over again to check if it is correct.

    5. If you get it wrong read the information and have another go.
