Introduction and goals of the workshop

Evolution of foam concentrates over the years, from protein foams to AFFF-AR low viscosity (Newtonian) and fluorine free alcohol-resistant formulations. Properties of different foams are very different and this section will go through a technical overview of these products and how they tackle different fires. Where are we now? And most important, where are we heading to?

Foam related terminology.

Foam properties. What it is relevant to look at when you need to evaluate different foam concentrates depending on your own special risks?

A sales demonstration is not a test!! It is critical for the end user to understand the difference. We will highlight key points on standards, features, applications, etc.

Matching the foam to the system. Effective system design is crucial to ensure foam concentrates perform effectively. We will review current standards and differences in them for different applications.

Lunch

Practical Exercises in the fire ground•Low,mediumand

HighExpansionDemos

•AFFFvsAFFFAR

•AFFF-ARvsFluorineFree-AR

We will finish the day with fire test in a bund of 225 m2 !!

Dinner arranged for the delegates in a typical cider venue.

Factory visit: AUXQUIMIA (practical)

This tour will help delegates to better understand how the physical properties of the foam concentrates affect fire performances and show typical routine quality control test that can be carried out.Wewillcarryoutpracticalexerciseswithviscosities, expansions, surfacetensions, stability, wetting capability, etc.

Different standard protocols will be shown also during the factory visit.

Lunch

Current and future environment regulations. A very controversial matter currently. Key speakers from the international industry and from regulators willexplaintheirpointsofviewonthissubject to help end users to develop their own criteria and understand their legal requirements.

•PFOAs limits in the UK: Current situation and how it will affect the Oil Industry in a near future.

•Evolutionoffoamconcentratesandits uses in the Aviation environment. ICAO test studies with Fluorine free foam concentrates.
