I heard you. Rehabilitated. Let's see now. You know, come to think of it, I have no idea whatthat means.MAN #2Well, it means you're ready to rejoin societyREDI know what you think it means. Me, I think it's a made-up word, a politician's word. A word soyoung fellas like you can wear a suit and tie and have a job. What do you really want to know?Am I sorry for what I did?MAN #2Well...are you?REDNot a day goes by I don't feel regret, and not because I'm in here or because you think Ishould. That kid's long gone, this old manis all that's left, and I have to live with that.

    Socially Lonely

    Loveless?

    Poor

    Outcast

Excluded from social and religious gatherings / festivals, etc

    Shame

    Ceremonially Everything unclean

    Inconvenience for others

    Disallowed from temple

Not allowed in public without declaration of condition

By use of the law, Jesus was made unclean.

    So what's she really doing?

    Reaching out in desperation

She knows that touching anything would make it unclean. She reaches anyway

What is the garment that scripture speaks of?

A tallit (or shawl) which was worn for covering. It was given to the boy after his 13th

birthday, or a girl after her 12th.

Usually worn around the shoulders or head

Jewish Sources would indicate that the Tallit is what was meant when Jesus said go intoyour prayer closet - although this is contentious!

God commanded the people of Israel to add knotted fringes (or Tzit-Tzit), which was toremind them of the 613 mosaic laws. Number 15 / Deuteronomy 22.

Why the hem (or Fringes) though?

It was a first point of contact for the woman to exercise her faith.

    The Fringes denoted

    Authority

    The Law (Scripture)

    ...and finally

Malachi 4:2 - But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healingin his wingsHebrew word for wings is 'Kanaph, which has two meanings:

    1) Wings

    2) Extremity The corner or fringe of a garment.

Woman would have understood the symbolism of 'Authority' and the 'Word' contained inthe corners of the Tallit (the tzit-tzit)

Also, possibly remembered the Prophetic Word in Malachi which talks of the Sun risingwith healing in his wings.

Same Hebrew root word used for wings and hem, or fringe, could have taken it tomean Sun will rise with healing in the fringe!

Part 2 The crowds in Gennesaret

    Mark 6:53-56 Read!

Jesus' fame spreads, and he is immediately recognised when he gets out of the boat!

People were bought from all over the region, asking that they might even touch thefringe of his garment.

Only two occasions in scripture shows that touching the Hem of the garment willresult in healing. Both occasions are shown in multiple gospels, and refer to thegarment that Jesus is wearing.

So what is the difference between the two?

    1) Woman with the issue of Blood stems out of desperation If I touch evening hisgarments...

    2) The people in Gennesaret walk in what they now KNOW and Jesus healingpeople.

Both are just as valid as each other, but we can come at situations from differentperspectives.

    1) We cry out to God from a place of desperationHow much do we know that we can bankrupt ourselves trying to resolve issuesbefore we get to Jesus?

    2) We also come to Jesus, knowing that he is all we need.We have experience, we have testimony, and that knowledge is with us when

    coming to Jesus.

Part 3 What do we know?

Important to remember what we know about Jesus.

Woman with the issue of blood has been an outsider for 12 years First thing Jesus doesis bring her back in DAUGHTER

Jesus places great value on us, and desires more than to just DO good things for us.Relational!

Jesus HEALS! We can sometimes become discouraged when we dont see it happen.

    But he does!

Psalm 103:3 - Who forgives all your sins, and heals all your diseases

Acts 9:32 Story of Aeneas Jesus Christ heals you!Acts 3:6 In the name of Jesus Christ!

Aeneas and Woman with issue of blood same position inasmuch as they can do nothing for

    themselves.

GRACE Jesus chooses to pour out love, mercy and grace on people who are unable to doanything for themselves.
