Believe it or not, words are more than lists of words to memorize for a test; they are concepts, the ideas

that allow us to distinguish ourselves from one another. You may feel courageous while your friend may

feel indifferent when it comes to college. Essentially, words matter because they are used to describe

your life and who you are.

    The task here is twofold:

    1. Find the words that best match ideas about who you think you are at this stage of your life

    2. Unpack these words for the informationthey provide about your attitudes and assumptions, skills

    and abilities, plans and goals.

Remember, the more language you have to describe yourself and what you are bringing to the next stage

of your life, the more opportunities you will have to represent yourself accurately.

Below is a brief list of words that will help you find words that name the values and abilities you are

bringing to the next stage of your life. Look through the list and choose 10 words that best fit your

sense of self. Write them down below.

writing down words that have the same meaning, but are different words, and thats okay because it

allows you a different perspective. Try to be honestdont just think up synonyms for the first 10 words.
