Between work, school, and other household activities, adults are often left with very little time

to prepare a home cooked meal and dine with the family at home. However, dieticians and other specialists are one in saying that home cooking and frequent family dining are practices that you should not set aside as they have numerous benefits, especially to your health and of your family’s. Studies show that people consume fifty percent more calories, fat, and sodium when they dine out, and they often miss out on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and other nutrient-dense food items. Apart from reducing risks for cancer, obesity and its related disorders, dining with the family contributes to overall well-being as well. In fact, there is growing evidence highlighting the advantages of these practices in terms of family relationships and work or school performance. Studies done in the past decades have shown that children who eat with their families at home

tend to shy away from vices and habit-forming

substances. The statistics also clearly show that children who dine with their folks are healthier, happier, and better students. Breaking old habits is difficult, but by staying organized and looking for dishes that can be done by someone with little or no experience, you might just be able to pull it off. Spend 15 to 20 minutes during your off-days to plan a week’s worth of menus and write a grocery list and shop once a week to get your needed supplies. The good thing is that there are several Filipino dishes which do not take a lot of effort or time to cook, but are definitely sumptuous still. For instance, a well-liked fast and simple Pinoy or Filipino recipe is the stir fry chicken. This Pinoy or Filipino recipe can be made in half an hour with little effort. Stir-fried chicken is typically served with rice or egg noodles.

Nutritionists also recommend taking home-cooked lunches to school or to your work place. Banana bread recipe are healthy, quick and easy, requiring only 10 to 15 minutes of hands-on time, and 60 minutes of relatively unattended baking time. If your grandmother’s banana bread or cake recipe uses butter, you can make it even healthier by replacing this ingredient with 2/3 cup of vegetable oil, like canola, for every cup of butter.

Experts understand that it is not easy to break old habits. Most of us hardly have enough time to work out, how much more to prepare breakfasts or dinners. But this is one of those things that although requires a bit of time and effort on your part, can not only add years to life, but life to years, as well.
