The song I have chosen “Maniac” by Calez an unsigned American Hip hop artist is a song that includes many conventions of rappers songs in America, Britain and all around the world. These type of songs generally include rapping with a repetitive beat and chorus, the rap lyrics consist of girls, how they didn’t have a lot of money, how they have a lot of style and are cool. These lyrics are seen all the time in rap songs by American Artists such as Jay Z, Tupac, Nas, Joey Bada$$, TI, Eminen etc. and similarly by many British rappers such as Devlin, Bashy, Wiley, Kano, Wretch 32, Mikil Payne etc. all of which are signed rappers that create similar music to Calez. So when deciding how to advertise the song I had to take into consideration the people who would enjoy this particular style of Music and what they would appreciate. I came to the conclusion that the simple things in working class industrial areas are what suit this genre best as this is a song related to the beginning of a career when they are not rich and famous similar to Jay Z’s ‘Hard knock life’ as opposed songs that are bragging about the flashy materialistic things in life. So the images I used are mainly in an old open warehouse with tatty walls and my model who is replacing Calez’s position throughout my project is wearing street wear clothing as the mise en scene is important to carry of the image I want to portray. Also the location is good as it connotes a rundown area which is where you would expect gangster rappers to live and hang around and this is the image I wanted to put across of my song. The Writing I have used in my Digipak has a few effects on it to make it look a bit tatty like the location so that the house style is kept throughout everything. I have included extra footage and posters in the Digipak which would attract fans into buying the product.
