CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

Charlie and the Chocolate factory is a children's tale that teaches good behavior

brings great rewards. Charlie and the Chocolate factory lands on my favorites list because it is a classic rags to riches story.

The Story Becomes A Movie

The movie was a musical titled Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The film was released June 30, 1971 at a cost of $3 Million. Even though the big

screen brought the movie to a new audiences there were

noticeable differences from the book. Roald Dahl spoke out against the movie because it

deviated from his script.

A Second MovieThe second film was directed by

Tim Burton. It was released on July 15, 2005. Burton chose to stick

closer to the original story than the first film. He also spent more time

reflecting on Willy Wonka’s childhood. Even though Burton had more technological tools available; Burton chose to work more with oversized props so the children would be able to work in a real

environment.

Following the 2005 movie release another video game was released for the Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft

Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo's Game Boy Advance, and Windows PC by developers Backbone and High Voltage Software and publisher 2K Games.

Since the first film was a musical, I feel it has contributed to the success of the story instead of

harming it as Dahl feared. When my generation reflects on the story we can’t help but sing Pure Imagination to

ourselves.

Technology has not changed the theme of this story. A simple boy who comes from a poor family named Charlie Bucket now lives in the hearts and homes of

multiple generations and cultures. We can all see a little Charlie in ourselves and that is why the story has been

so successful.
