Season’s greetings!

After the leaves are gone, the weather turns colder and the holidays approach, there are still plenty of ways to stay active and keep moving. No matter the season, we believe that facilitating connections - to nature, activities, and other people - leads to a vibrant, healthy and happy community. That’s why I’m pleased to share this update on new parks and activities now available to residents of North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District.

We’re continually adding new programs for all ages and abilities to enjoy. Our new Pre-kindergarten Sports leagues provide children and their parents with the opportunity to learn, grow and play through active play. We’ve also added Shooting Stars, an inclusive program that allows children with special needs ages 5-22 to learn a sport in a safe a positive environment. For adults, our new drop-in basketball open gym offers flexibility for staying fit and shooting hoops with others. These are just a few of our new program offerings and I encourage you to explore them all in this edition of the NCPRD Discovery Guide.

In other exciting news, this winter we’re proud to be opening Wichita Park in the Linwood Neighborhood of Milwaukie. A joint effort between NCPRD the City of Milwaukie, the Linwood Neighborhood Association and the community – this 1-acre park includes a playground, walking paths, disc golf, picnic areas, lawn, trees and other plantings. Neighbors can now gather and children can play in this wonderful addition to our North Clackamas community.

There are several other park projects in various stages of planning and construction. The Hidden Falls Nature Park in Happy Valley is nearing completion and is expected to be open to the public by the end of this year. The Boardman Wetland Complex in the Jennings Lodge area of the District is now under construction and the project recently received a grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department for $385,000. Finally, we’re developing the final design for Milwaukie Bay Park in partnership with the City and have heard from over 1,000 residents on possible park elements and preferences as part of the public outreach process.

To learn more about all of NCPRD’s current projects, visit ncprd.com/planning/ current-projects.

It is our mission to serve all residents of the North Clackamas community. I invite you to experience the wide variety of parks, trails, programs and events available to you as District residents.

On behalf on everyone at NCPRD, have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year.

Scott Archer, NCPRD Director
