Today’s Message:

Peter: Wounded Witness–Denying Disciple

He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds we are healed. - I Peter 2:24

The Easter Message

HE’S ALIVE !!!

But the question remains…

Are We ? Are You ? Am I ?

Main Scriptures:Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.  But he replied, Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death. Jesus answered, I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me. Luke 22:31-34

Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance.  And when some there had

kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. A servant girl saw him seated there in the

firelight. She looked closely at him and said, This man was with him.7 But he denied it. Woman, I don’t know him, he said.  A little later someone else saw him and said, You also are one of them. Man, I am not! Peter

replied.  About an hour later another asserted, Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.  Peter replied, Man, I don’t know what

you’re talking about! Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the

word the Lord had spoken to him: Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly. Luke

22: 54-62

Main Scriptures (Cont.):Don’t be alarmed, he said. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you. Mark 16:6-7

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled

away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in

clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to

them, Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and

on the third day be raised again. Then they remembered his words. When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and

to all the others.  It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.

Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what

had happened. Luke 24: 1-12

1. The road to

destruction is paved with good intentions (made in easier times.)

Luke 22:31-34 – “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” 33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” 34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”Luke 14:28-33 – “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit

down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the

one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.

33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.

Proverbs 20:25 – It is a trap to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider one’s vows.

Psalm 50:14-15 – “Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, 15 and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will

honor me.”

I will follow through on my commitments,

and weigh the cost before I make them.

Luke 22:54-62 – Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55 And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”57 But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said. 58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” Man, I am not!” Peter replied. 59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.” 60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Matthew 5:14-16 –  “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a

lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see

your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.Mark 8:36-38 – What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem,

and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

3. Jesus is alive again! He’s conquered sin and death! We all

have another chance.

Mark 16:6-7 – “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”

Romans 6:23 –  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I Corinthians 15:55-57 – “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death,

is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Go and tell theGood News to Peter … and _____________.

4. My response to the Good News is the key to everything in life, and life itself !

Luke 24:1-12 – On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8 Then they remembered his words. 9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

John 11:25-26 – Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me

will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

John 20:27-29 – Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Acts 16:31 – They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved-you and your household.”
