Employment History:

University of Louisville, Research Engineer and Adjunct Professor: Project Manager on several projects to enable and support 15 to 22 graduate students in Biomedical Imaging and Robotics for the Computer Vision and Image Processing Lab (ECE Dept.)

The Biomedical Developments encompassed converting CT and MRI slices into 3D reconstructions to develop several medical analysis tools. The main medical projects are: 3D virtual models of the human jaw from video replacing plaster molds; ankle fusion surgery tools and novel virtual colonoscopy techniques from CT scans; and vital signs from thermal Imaging.

The Robotic development included both hardware and software development in autonomous robotics for robots traveling terrain in both the real and virtual world; Robotic Refueling of ground vehicles and aircraft; and Humanoid Robotic Interfacing.

Other Computer Vision Work:

Facial Recognition beyond 50 meters (Stereo and Mono imaging)

Enhancing Autistic Students learning via biofeedback and humanoid robotic interfaces. (Applies our technology of extracting vital signs from thermal imaging, and emotions from facial features.)

General Support:

Specify/ design/ install sensors, cameras, optics, and software. Examples: - Stereo camera platform with powered pan/tilt, zoom and baseline adjustments, with

automate capture algorithms - CCD camera mechanism to fit within a patient’s mouth, lighting, and lens

requirements - Design Replica of jet aircraft fuselage section with refueling adapter and fitted robotic

arm with new camera and replica of jet refueling nozzle.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Project Reports: Responsible for all project reports and project schedules for project funded by NSF, NIH, KSEF, KCF, USAF, USARMY, DOD, HSD, NASA EPSCOR, and Commercial Companies.

Project Meetings: Responsible for coordinating most of the project meetings with hospitals staffs, other engineering entities, and commercial companies, as well as compiling presentations, reports and action items.

Proposal Submittal: Compiled all inputs from PI’s and other researches (medical and engineering) into early drafts for proposals to the NIH, NSF, NASA EPSCOR, DOD, HSD, KSEF, KCF, USAF and Commercial Companies. Managed these proposals through completion, including final submission through Grants Management and Industrial Contracts, as well as working with The Technology Transfer Office as needed.

Patents: Filed multiple patents through the U of L patent office and worked resulting office actions. Resulting in 4 US issued patents and several provisional patents for our team in the last 8 years.

IRB Coordinator Role: Responsible for all documentation, submittals, and continuation Reviews for the lab 8 lab studies / projects.

VERIFONE / HP: Engineering Project Manager, Rocklin Ca. Project Manager for VeriFone Development Center in which I was a major catalyst in implementing design procedures and improving design processes, as we moved VeriFone out of its entrepreneur design mentality into structured engineering practices. Worked closely with Marketing on the definition of new products. Built team from 10 to 21 Engineers in 18 months. Managed budgets ($2M), schedules, Capital forecasts, and Statements of Work. Managed/ co-managed the following POS terminals projects--Omni Modem 100, SC250, SC225, Omni 1250, Omni 1240, Omni 1220, Omni 1450, Omni 1460, Omni, RF 250, RF 350 and Omni 3200M. (Mag Card, Smart Card and modem interfaces were critical building blocks in these products. )

Championed FPGA's and ASIC’s starting with the Jaguar (mag card reader/ power supervisor chip) and the system chip ASIC, which was a major objective I had set when I joined VeriFone.

Managed Sustaining issues on the Petro Products. Also Consulted with Petro on a regular basis to brainstorm the development of new products.

Designed Solutions for security issues for credit, debit, and smart card terminals. Led Wireless team : Designed/ proposed various wireless terminals for Mobitex, GSM, CDPD,

major sub-assemblies for the notebook family. Grew project from original revamp of troubled Docking Station design.)

Designed controllers/engine interface circuits for Texas Instruments initial laser printer offerings. Designed memory management ASIC’s to enable the use of the GSP processors (tms34010) in laser printer. Electrical Design Engineer for Impact Printers, Houston, TX Developed Open Loop Stepper Motor Algorithms used in TI 850/855 printers. Designed printhead drive circuits. Obtained patent on new printhead design circuit. Designed a 100 kHz switching power supply. Worked with vendors to customize motors. PCB Test Section Manager for Terminals and Peripherals, Houston, TX Coordinated all PCB functional and incircuit tests for the Terminals and Peripherals. Studied benefits of Signature Analysis tools.
