Wolf Creek Trailer analysis – The trailer starts happy and bright, the music is happy and quick, there are a few shots the characters being happy on the beach, the bright shots portray happiness, indicating that nothing is wrong. So far the trailer
doesn’t indicate it is a horror film.
The trailer then goes to show ‘Dimension films’ and ‘Darclight’ which is showing
us who is making the film.
It then goes onto more happy shots of the characters, it shows the people are happy and going on a road trip. The shots are short and snappy but merge fluently
throughout it, making it seem relaxing and not showing any sign of fear or danger yet.
The music played is relaxing and of an average tempo and is still indicating nothing is wrong.
There is then a small section of speech ‘If your hurt her im going to have to kill you’, this is said in a jokey manner but it is a sly implication of
what maybe happening later in the film.
There are a few establishing shots of the place just to show they
are in the middle of nowhere which could
lead to danger, the shots are the start of the danger, it introduces you to the surroundings and the setting where the film is mainly set.
The characters seem happy and then the screen goes
black and the music quickly stops as does the
relaxing atmosphere created by it. You hear the
sound of the car door shut, but no music behind it. You see the screen go black in between each shot and then there is a shot of the people in the car
and the shots go dark and the music is eary, this is the first real indication of danger shown in the trailer.
You then see ‘based on a true story’ which makes the story seem eerier as you then put yourself in the situation and feel the emotion
of the characters.
The shots are then quick and sharp, the music is really fast creating a scary atmosphere. This the first time you see shots showing danger.
Different shots are used to create a scarier effect. Black shots are placed in between each shot to split them up and shock you. You then hear
‘Please don’t kill me please’ then the music stops, creating more tension, as you want to know who said it and what actions lead up to this
happening. It creates questions in your mind such as did she get killed?, who else has been killed? Who is the killer? That line alone creates many
questions fort he viewer.
The text ‘Wolf Creek’ ‘How can you be found
When no one knows your missing’ comes up on the
screen. This is the last shot you see, leaving the question in your mind. The black background is
keeping with the dark and gloomy theme and placing ‘Wolf Creek’ at the end is so you remember the title of the film.
